Intro
Hello Voicetubers! Welcome to today's Pronunciation Challenge. I am your host, Mia. Today's video is about confidence. I chose this video because when I was little, I always asked my mom questions that started with "what if."
"What if nobody likes me?." "What if I do an awful job?" "What if they think I am boring?"
And yes, I lacked confidence in many things back then.
Having an unconfident personality or sometimes just feeling unconfident is not your fault.
But maybe this video can give you some insights and tips when you feel lost.
And now, let's see the sentence first.
Sentence:
In a foreign city, we might grow reluctant to ask anyone to guide us to the nice bars because they might think us an ignorant, pitiable, lost tourist.
Pronunciation tips:
1. reluctant: (1) Separate the word into three parts. (2) The pronunciation of “re” (3) The pronunciation of “luc.” (4) The pronunciation of “tant.”
2. reluctant to: The weakness of “to”
3. guide us: linking
4. ignorant : (1) Separate the word into three parts. (2) The pronunciation of “ig” (3) The pronunciation of “no” (4) The pronunciation of “rant” (5) Stress of the word
Vocabulary:
1. reluctant (adj) 不情願的 KK[rɪˋlʌktənt] IPA /rɪˈlʌk.tənt/
Def: not willing to do something and therefore slow to do it
*appear with “to”

她不願意把學校里發生的事情告訴她的父母。
2. ignorant (adj) 無知的 KK[ˋɪgnərənt] IPA/ˈɪɡ.nɚ.ənt/
Def: not having enough knowledge, understanding, or information about something
It is ignorant to judge things based on shallow understanding.
根據淺薄的認知來對事物下定論是很無知的。
3. pitiable (adj) 可憐的 KK[ˋpɪtɪəb!] IPA /ˈpɪt̬.i.ə.bli/
Def: deserving or arousing pity.
We feel hurt, angry, and pitiable when we experience real suffering.
當我們經歷真正的痛苦時,我們感到受傷、憤怒、可憐的。
Outro:
After I grew up, I realized that being unconfident might be one of my natures. Even now, I still cannot guarantee I am 100% confident in front of any new challenges or new things; to be more specific, I am still that little girl who lacks self-confidence. But instead of turning my head to my mom and asking her "what if," now I pluck up my courage and just give anything that I doubt a shot. Just do it; it might turn out to be a good result and even bring you surprises, but who knows?
Thank you for today's pronunciation challenge, don't forget to record your sentence! I am Mia. See you next time!
