G’day, VoiceTubers! Hope you’ve had a nice weekend. What did you get up to? I visited Maokong (貓空) which is located at the top of a mountain in Taipei, known for its scenic views and locally grown tea. Apart from driving and taking the bus, you can also get there by taking the Maokong Gondola (cable car service) which is only a short walk from Taipei Zoo MRT station. It’s one of my favourite places to visit in Taiwan, because there are a lot of teahouses as well as restaurants to visit. Since Maokong is famous for its locally grown tea, you’ll find that many restaurants incorporate green tea into their dishes. I recommend the tea-smoked chicken, noodles cooked in tea seed oil, and tea-infused stir-fried rice. I really recommend making a trip to Maokong if you haven’t already been there before. Make sure you try the tea-flavoured ice cream while you’re there, also!
Our video today talks about the benefits of drinking green tea. It’s not just a drink for old people. It’s in fact one of the healthiest teas to drink. Tea has been used for centuries as a health booster in many societies, not just in Asia but in the west as well. Let’s go over some main health benefits of green tea later, but now, let’s have a listen to our sentence of the day.
Sentence: Caffeine is also a mild stimulant which can improve your memory and energy levels.
Vocabulary:
• caffeine (n.) KK[ˋkæfiɪn] IPA /ˈkæf.iːn/ a chemical, found for example in tea and coffee, that is a stimulant (= something that makes people more active)
Example: Up to 400 milligrams of caffeine per day appears to be safe for most healthy adults.
• mild (adj.) KK[maɪld] IPA /maɪld/ not violent, severe, or extreme
Example: Abby caught Covid-19 after being on a 12-hour flight but fortunately, her symptoms are only mild.
• stimulant (n.) KK[ˋstɪmjələnt] IPA /ˈstɪm.jə.lənt/ a substance, such as a drug, that makes the mind or body more active
Example: Sometimes Daniel uses alcohol as a stimulant before he gets on the dance floor. After a few drinks, he believes he can dance better than anyone else on the floor.
Outro:
Green tea contains high concentrations of antioxidants which can help fight aging, including fine lines, wrinkles, and can also help boost brain activity and memory recall. One survey in Japan concluded that green tea is also good for the heart and can reduce the risk of mortality from cardiovascular disease. Some recent surveys also say that green tea is a potential cancer-fighting agent. Drinking at least a couple of cups of green tea daily and regularly can help prevent mutations in cells that cause cancer.
However, those of you that have sleep issues should avoid drinking green tea too late. People with stomach problems should also consult their doctor first and consume in moderation. After recording this episode, I think I am going to go boil some water and make some green tea for myself! That’s it for today guys, I hope you have enjoyed my episode and do remember to record your sentence. Have a great one and see you around, ok?
