Jenny's transcript!
Intro:

Hi guys, do you like receiving compliments? In short, compliments are nice things we say to other people. I’m sure most of us enjoy hearing compliments every now and then. Do you feel a million bucks when someone gives you a compliment? In our video today, the speaker talks about the impact of powerful compliments in the workplace. A good compliment can go a long way; it will help boost confidence, make people feel that they are being appreciated for what they do and even improve their work performance.

Let’s pause for a moment and go over our pronunciation challenge first:

Sentence:
Here's how it works: Instead of, "I appreciate how collaborative you are," try, "You are collaborative," or better yet, "You are a powerful partner."

Pronunciation tips:
1.
Appreciate
2. Collaborative
3. Partner (t

Vocab:
1.
collaborative (v.) KK[kəˋlæbərətɪv]] IPA /kəˈlæb.ɚ.ə.t̬ɪv/
合作的;協作的 involving two or more people working together for a special purpose

collaboration (n.) KK[kə͵læbəˋreʃən] IPA /kəˌlæb.əˈreɪ.ʃən/
合作;協作 the situation of two or more people working together to create or achieve the same thing

In collaboration with a vocalist, the pipe organist performed several moving pieces of music at the National Concert hall last night.

2.
instead of (phr.)
作為…的替代 in place of someone or something

I’m absolutely buggered today, would you please take out the rubbish (trash) later instead of me?

3.
better yet (phr.)
Better yet” means that what is about to be said is better than something formerly said, which was said to be good.

Angela! We are going to be in the same class again next semester, better yet, we’re going to sitting next to each other!
Angela!

Outro:

When it’s done right, a good compliment will surely make someone’s day! So here’s some advice on how to give a good compliment. First, you need to be sincere, and link your compliment to something you genuinely feel. Second, be authentic and not hyperbolic. Hyperbolic means it’s deliberately exaggerated. Don’t over exaggerate, OK?! I think the compliment would come off in a wrong way if you do that. Also, for a compliment to be effective, you can also try to be more specific. Let’s assume you’re trying to say something nice to a musician after their performance. Instead of just saying, “That was a great performance”, you can be more specific and say something like, “I really enjoyed your performance, especially during the climax of the last piece, I was at the edge of my seat and felt goosebumps all over my arms!”. See, much better right?

Compliments can be a useful tool to nurture and enhance relationships. Let’s practice by leaving a nice comment underneath someone else’s recording today! Actually, I see that some of you are already doing that! I’ve noticed a few of our very motivated listeners that make extra learning notes, are getting some nice feedback from other listeners. They’re being thanked for translating the transcripts and for helping each other learn. For our listeners that tune in via other mediums like Spotify, you can head on over to VoiceTube’s website and see what I’m talking about under the pronunciation challenge section. I think we have a really lovely community here and I’m super proud of our listeners that have kept up the habit of recording challenge sentences day after day for a long time! That’s amazing guys! You guys deserve a big compliment and should be proud of yourselves! Alright, promise you’ll join me again next time? Thanks for listening and see you later!

Here's how it works: Instead of, "I appreciate how collaborative you are," try, "You are collaborative," or better yet, "You are a powerful partner."
Better yet, my dad will pick us up so we don’t have to walk home by ourselves.
◆ collaborative [kəˋlæbərətɪv] (adj.)
◆ collaboration [kə͵læbəˋreʃən] (n.)
◆ appreciate [əˋpriʃɪ͵et]
(vt.)
