To be a liar, you've got to have a great memory, and I don't have a memory. Ozzy Osbourne
How’s it going Voicetube listeners and welcome to the Pronunciation Challenge. I’m your host, Hugh and today we’ll be talking about liars and how can we tell if someone is lying! Have any of you listeners been following the Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard trial? I would say the majority of the internet would agree that Amber Heard is lying! The trial is still ongoing so we won’t find out until the end of the month but it’s not looking good for Amber Heard. She has a bunch of stories with no evidence (proof) and the details keep changing. My gut feeling is that she’s lying! Let’s get to the featured sentence and then watch the video for signs of a liar!
Today’s featured sentence: We think warmth and smiles convey honesty, sincerity.
I’ll say that again.
We think warmth and smiles convey honesty, sincerity.
Ok, now time for the Pronunciation Tips.
For the first word, we have warmth One syllable. Ok, this might be a tricky one because this involves the dreaded “TH” sound! The trick here is to gently touch your lips together when you say warm. Say the word as usual but on the M, make no sound but form the M sound shape with your mouth. As soon as your lips touch each other, slide the “TH” sound into it to give you “warmth”.
Next up, we have honesty Three syllables Forget the H here! It’s silent so go straight into “on” like on and off. “Nest” sounds like list like a grocery list but with an N instead of an L in front. Honesty.
Lastly, we have, sincerity Four syllables. “Sin” is like sin when you do something bad according to the bible. “Cer” sounds like “ear” but with an S in front! “I” has a short U sound and “ty” sounds like the letter T but with the American pronunciation, try saying the letter D instead. Sincerity.
Moving onto Vocabulary!
The first word is: 1. convey Definition to express a thought, feeling, or idea so that it is understood by other people Used in a sentence you could say, “I hope that this song can convey my feelings for you.”
Next word, 2. honest Definition the quality of being honest Used in a sentence, you could say: “Can you stop lying and be honest for once?”
And lastly, 3. sincerity Definition: Honesty (This is the Cambridge definition but let me expand on this definition. Sincerity can be something like an apology you give someone but you really mean it and you’re not just saying it. We feel that you know that you were wrong. That’s sincerity.) Used in a sentence, you could say: “I decided to help him because he impressed me with his sincerity.”
Staring too much. Not staring enough! Sounds confusing! Johnny Depp barely had any eye contact and Amber Heard had too much eye contact! Who’s telling the truth?! It also doesn’t help that they’re both actors although, I must say that Johnny Depp is the better actor for sure. Is he acting now?! As you can tell, I’ve been hooked (hooked means I’m very interested in something) on this trial for a couple of weeks now. I remember hearing about this broken marriage for years now so it’ll be interesting to see how this ends! We have Elon Musk and James Franco mentioned as well! What an interesting case. Who do you think is telling the truth? Leave your comments below along with your recordings! I’m curious to know what the rest of the world thinks about this trial. I’m hoping you listeners have more things going on in your lives than to be paying attention to the private lives of a couple of celebrities. What am I doing with my life?
Alright, time to end this episode! Make sure to keep practicing and listen to the other episodes of the Pronunciation Challenge! My name is Hugh and I’ll be signing off until the next episode, see ya!
#也是有看過假笑過頭的魚尾紋吶,雞皮疙瘩落滿地 We think liars won't look you in the eyes. Well, guess what? They look you in the eyes a little too much. We think warmth and smiles convey honesty, sincerity. Can you all spot the fake smile here? You can consciously contract the muscles in your cheeks but the real smile's in the eyes. The crow's feet in the eyes, they cannot be consciously contracted.
