今天是舊集回顧!大家有沒有記得我們可愛的 Seraya 啊!不管是新朋友還是舊朋友都快來聽聽吧!
I'm falling
In all the good times I find myself
Longing for a change
And in the bad times I fear myself
I'm off the deep end, watch as I dive in
I'll never meet the ground
Crash through the surface, where they can't hurt us
We're far from the shallow now
(humming “Shallow”) Oh, sorry guys I’m immersing myself in the music… Greeting! I’m Seraya and welcome back to Today’s challenge! Do you like to listen to music? I do! Western music, specifically. As for the music genre, I’m not that picky, though If I really have to pick one, maybe rock is the one I like the least. Have you ever thought about learning English with songs? If yes, How does the result go? Let’s talk about it later! Now first, sentence time!

But let's take just this phrase "I'm off the deep end" which means "change your behavior, to start doing something risky or uncertain or lose control of yourself."
我們先用 I'm off the deep end 這個片語來做例子,意思是改變你的行為來做某件冒險的事,或者對自己失去控制。
The sentence can be split into two parts.
The first one is
But let's take just this phrase "I'm off the deep end"
phrase the “ph” combination pronounces as “f” phrase
This part is trying to say take “I’m off the deep end” (for example), the “for example” is eliminated in the sentence. Just so you know, the speaker is trying to give an example for us.
After a brief pause, there goes our second part
which means "change your behavior, to start doing something risky or uncertain or lose control of yourself."
So here is the meaning of the phrase. It means to change your behavior, be sure to pronounce the short “i” sound in the word.
To do something risky, the intonation goes a little upward, or uncertain, which means not that sure, not that certain, tone also goes up a bit, or lose control of yourself “lose” do not mistake its pronunciation for “loss”
Lose control of yourself might mean that you or your life is out of control. Things are going crazy or you don’t know what you are doing, something like this.
So the whole sentence is (sentence).
The sentence can be split into two parts.
The first one is
But let's take just this phrase "I'm off the deep end"
這邊講者為我們舉了個片語例子 “I’m off the deep end”,所以其實是 take “I’m off the deep end” for example, 只是 for example 被省略了,所以現在你們也知道啦前面的 take 就是在舉例的意思啦~
phrase 的 ph 組合發 f 音
After a brief pause there goes our second part
which means "change your behavior, to start doing something risky or uncertain or lose control of yourself."
所以這邊就是在解釋這個片語的意思啦,先看發音 behavior 中間有一個短音 i,要記得發出來,to do something risky 語氣上揚一點,因為接下來這一整串是要舉例 or uncertain 就是不太確定的意思,語氣也上揚,or lose control of yourself, lose 發音發 lose 不要發成 loss 喔,這是兩個不同的字!
所以我們一起唸一次句子吧! (句子)
Cool cool! Now time for some vocabs and phrases.

走火入魔,逼人走上極端
When his girlfriend broke up with him, he went off the deep end and impulsively burnt anything in his room that would remind him of his girlfriend. And he accidentally set his house on fire.
當他的女朋友跟他分手時,他走上極端,把房間裡所有會讓他觸景傷情的東西都燒了,結果不小心連房子都燒了。
So guys, for safety concerns, please be careful when you are using fire. Don’t burn anything flammable indoors, okay?
lose control of

out of control

The firefighters had lost control of the fire, so they requested help from other branches.

All right people! This is it for today’s challenge! I really do think of doing a cover of Shallow this song, but due to the copyright issue, I may not be able to do it. But it’s fine, I still get a chance to share the highlight of the lyrics with you guys. My personal experience is that I do learn a lot of new vocabulary and slang by listening to songs. I think one of the upsides of learning languages through songs is that the expressions and languages are always the latest. What do you think? Do you learn English by listening to English songs? Share an English song that you recently listened to, and don’t forget your recordings, too! Thanks for tuning in, have a chill Sunday and have a nice week. See ya later!

☺But let's take just this phrase "I'm off the deep end" which means "change your behavior, to start doing something risky or uncertain or lose control of yourself."
我們就從" I'm off the deep end" 這個片語來看,它的意思是「改變你的行為,去做點有風險或沒把握的事,或者讓自己失控」。
【心得】如果透過聽歌去學語言,學到的可能不會很實用,因為歌詞有時為了押韻考量,在發音、文法和選字上都未必適用在平日生活中,中文歌也是如此。
