Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu once said, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”. In today’s video, we see the issue of homelessness being tackled head-on, by teaching people how to grow and prepare the food that they eat. The video contains some valuable insight into the issues of poverty and homelessness, so I suggest you check it out! For now, let’s take a look at today’s featured sentence:
Sentence: 182 - 192
I think the most unique part of Farming Hope is gathering people from distinct walks of life to break bread together, and just be next to each other.
我想 Farming Hope 最獨特的地方是,聚集了來自不同生活階層的人,在此一同分享一塊麵包、比肩而坐。
Pronunciation:
Unique - long u, long e
Gathering - short a, er sound, ing soung
Blended words - is gathering, walks of
Vocabulary:
unique KK[juˋnik] IPA /juːˈniːk/ adj
Unique means being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else. Here’s an example sentence: "The province of Quebec is mostly french-speaking, making it unique among the Canadian provinces."
walk of life KK[wɔk][ɑv][laɪf] IPA/ˌwɔːk əv ˈlʌɪf/
A person’s ‘walk of life’ refers to their occupation or position within society. Here’s an example sentence: "While the restaurant is mainly targeted at the blue-collar crowd, it attracts patrons from all walks of life."
break bread KK[brek][brɛd] IPA/breɪk//brɛd/
To break bread means to share a meal with someone. Here’s an example sentence: "Walter is staying to break bread with us."
Outro:
That’s the end of our pronunciation challenge. I really enjoyed today’s video and its hopeful message. While a single program like this won’t erase the problems of homelessness and poverty, I always find it encouraging when I see people acknowledging the problem and making some sort of effort to address it. I also like the idea of both homeless and more affluent people eating meals together. I believe that meeting and getting to know people who are homeless and in a bad situation, it helps increase the overall understanding of the problem. But now I want to hear from you! What is the situation like where you live? What do people in your country do to address the issues of poverty and homelessness? Let me know in the comments below! I’m Jonathan for VoiceTube. Don’t forget to do your recording, and I’ll catch you next time!

Sometimes I wonder how the homeless became homeless? Whatever the reason is, it's always a blessing that people are willing to reach out, especially in today's cold society.
