Mass media has many pros and cons（好處和壞處）. It can help us keep connected with others and know what other people know. This is extremely important.

Mobilize (動員)the people in their hometown.

Mass media is also an indispensable(不可缺少的;責無旁貸的） voice of minorities.

Certain news network can bring their experiences and opinions to public attention.

Moreover, mass media can present individuals with the opportunities to share their voices in the open.

*In the open: no longer secret; not hidden; in the outdoors； out of doors

Transmit means to broadcast something or to send out or carry signals using radio or television.

The information is transmitted electronically to the central computer（以電子方式傳到中央電腦）.

Standardized is to make things of the same type all have the same basic features
使標準化，使合乎標準

We standardize parts such as rearview mirrors, so that one type will fit any model of car we make.

Consumption means the amount used or eaten

Gatekeeper is literally a person whose job is to open and close a gate and to prevent people entering without permission

Gatekeeper is also someone who has the power to decide who gets particular resources and opportunities, and who does not

The professors act as gatekeepers who determine which students are admitted into the competitive engineering program.
