Saudi Arabia officially lifted its ban on women driving in June, but women there are still subject to legal guardianship by husbands or male relatives.
Saudi Arabia is known to be one of the most conservative regimes(保守的政體）in the world.
But nowadays, the control over women there seem to be loosen(鬆） a bit and it is believed to have something that has to do with(與⋯相關）the economic development of the country.
Over the past 60 years, sufficient（充足的） amount of oil income allowed the kingdom to be one of the most wealthiest countries in the world.
But with the rapid growing population(但隨著快速成長的人口), the young prince of the kingdom(who was told by Michelle to call him MBS, short for Mohammad Bin Salman Al Saud好長的名字所以簡稱@@) has a new plan in his mind.
In his Saudi vision, 2030 announcement. He stated that his long term goal is to transform the economy of Saudi Arabia from primarily oil dependent incomes to bringing larger parts of the population into the labor force(轉到勞動）.
And he believes that the boost of the economy which makes both men and women more productive at work is necessary. And accordingly, women will play an important part in his vision(願景）.
We can see the changes to women and Saudi Arabia according to the timeline as the following.
In 2005, Saudi Arabia banned forced marriage(禁止強制婚約）. Before that, women had no free well over their marriage. Thankfully it has been changed since 2005.
In 2012, Saudi Arabia had their very first female Olympic athletes.
In 2013, women are allowed to ride bicycles and scoters.
In 2015, women have finally had their rights to vote.
In 2018, they are finally able to have their own driver’s license, for which is what we’re going to read today. So why don’t we just give it a ride, shall we?
