On New Year's Day fans will finally find out how Sherlock, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, survived falling from a hospital roof. But not one to brag, the ever-modest Benedict is just hoping it will provide viewers with some light relief. The first day of the new year is not always the best time. People are a little hung over. They've got tax bills, and the reality of the year now that the party and festive season is over. So, if this supplies any distraction from that, which is always a bit of a heavy day, then fantastic. And there are three of them, not just one. There's three one and a half hour films that are really rich with detail and will reward repeat viewing as well, so I'm hoping that'll be sort of a nice thing to sort of void the mood a little bit after all the highs of Christmas have gone. Things have changed for Martin Freeman - who plays Sherlock's sidekick John Watson. I guess as far as he's concerned. It's been two years since he lost his best friend. You know, his best friend died in front of his eyes, and he's had to move on or just be depressed. I think probably part of him does still carry that depression or carry that sadness that you do I think when you lose someone. You know, when we lost someone very close to us, I don't think we ever quite get over it, and John will always have the residue I think of that sadness, but he's fallen in love, and he's moved on. John was always a bit of a ladies man. You know, he's established that he always liked the birds. And in a case of life imitating art - Martin's on-screen wife, is actually his partner in real life. If you could do it and if you have a sort of chemistry off screen and on that you should do because it also means that you can see each other. You know, because when you're working away from home, you don't get to see them a lot of the time. You can share a car in and a car home. It's lovely. So, tell us Amanda Abbington what are the boys like off screen? They're really awful. They're just dreadful, very monosyllabic, not very nice to talk to, quite demanding... Martin's like that at home. No, they're not. What can I say? They're fantastic. I mean, Benedict's a dear friend, and I've lived with Martin for 13 years, so working with them both was a joy. It really was. It's fantastic.
