As a career strategist I've had the honour of being able to help numerous
professionals land their dream job offers and if this is something that
you're interested in learning how to stand out and get hired from me then I
will give you details about that at the end of this video I get it between the
time that you're done an interview and the time that you hear back from them
the employer for the next steps is the time where you're probably wondering to
yourself I wonder how I did and you're overanalyzing and thinking about how you
performed and whether or not they liked you you might even say to yourself I
wish I knew some hints that could indicate whether or not they'll move
forward with me well I'm here to help you with that here are four questions to
ask yourself that will point you in the direction of knowing whether or not the
interviewers are interested in potentially moving forward with you
question number one how long was the interview
the length of the interview is the biggest sign that will help you to
determine whether they were truly interested in you or not it's simple if
the interview went over time then this is potentially a good sign it's not
always the case but it could be a good sign
now if the interview went under time or it was just hitting the exact timeframe
that they had scheduled it for then either they also really liked you and
they were just really efficient you were both very efficient in the interview or
they just wanted to get the interview over with now a lot of people are going
to ask me well how much time is a good length of time and the truth is it
depends it really depends on the stage of the interview that you're in so if
it's the first level phone interview you wouldn't expect an a phone interview to
take an hour or two hours if it's an in-person interview then that can be
different so again it all depends on the stage of the interview that you're at
and also the interviewer themselves maybe they're very efficient in
interviews and they can make a decision quickly just by meeting you for 15 20 30
minutes so at the end of the day don't take it
- seriously if you went under time for your interview but like I say of a good
rule of thumb is to look at the length of time if it went longer than what
they've allocated then that is a good sign
question number two was the interviewer prepared a good way to tell if the
interviewer is seriously interested in hiring you is if they show up to the
interview prepared this is also a good indication of the quality of the job and
the organization that you're interviewing at the more prepared the
interviewer is hopefully the better the opportunity is as well so if the
interviewer is prepared and they ask you well thought-out questions
it means that they're taking their hiring process seriously and so long as
you've answered their questions in a strategic convincing and confident way
you've done a great job now if the interviewer wasn't prepared and instead
they asked you to come up with questions for them this is a bad sign it means
that they're not taking their search seriously and thus they're potentially
not only not interested in hiring you but probably not interested in hiring
anyone question number three did they seem intrigued with your answers this
comes down to body language and how they interacted with you if the interviewer
has wide eyes they are smiling they're nodding and you can sense that they're
listening to you intently because they're engaged and because you're
engaging those are all great signs that the interviewer is interested in you but
if for some reason they come off as standoffish reserved uninterested bored
then that might be an indication that they may not be as keen on you as a job
candidate also pay attention to whether they asked you follow up questions on
little details that you had mentioned during the interview if you find that
they're engaged then they would likely be asking you questions about things
that you had mentioned so that's a good sign as well and finally question number
four - ask yourself to determine if the interviewer was interested in you or not
is did it feel like a natural conversation getting to know each other
or was it a stiff Q&A remember that the goal of the interview is not to make it
a stiff and answer period but a natural
conversation where both you and the interviewer are getting to know each
other I've had many people tell me that it is hard to be able to read the
interviewers facial expressions and their body language and sometimes even
going through all of these questions you still won't really know if the
interviewer was interested in you or not but use these questions as a guide and
hopefully they'll help you to shape the way that you interact in your next
interview as well so there you have it my four signs to help you determine
whether or not the interviewer is potentially interested in hiring you now
