Isn’t it about time you guys talk about having pets in Korea? It does seem like it’s that time. You know what, I think that this is about the perfect time to do so 我認為正是時候 According to my watch, 根據我的錶 Which is covered in animals, and dogs, Mine is covered in Lego pieces Mine is covered in some kind of octopus. Alright lets get something off our chests before we 好了 在討論開始前 Start talking about this one. I know that you’re probably going to say this 我知道你想說什麼 But don’t worry about it, 但別擔心 If you’re going to bring your dog to Korea, Don’t get this idea that Korean people walk around With forks and knives and just 到處晃來晃去 Stab random dogs and eat them 見到狗就叉 然後吃了牠們 That does NOT happen. Did you know that Canadians eat moose? That is disgusting 太噁了吧 I don’t know if we do eat moose actually. I think there might be a moose meat shop You know how you pluralize moose? 你知道moose(麋鹿)的複數怎麼說嗎? Mice? Mice? 是meese So we’ve been here for five years now 我們來韓國已經五年了 And in the past five years we have noticed Quite a bit of a change in the attitudes towards 韓國人對養寵物的看法 Pets in Korea. Yeah, I know that when we first got Spudgy 對啊 五年前我們剛養Spudgy Five years ago, 的時候 There were really almost no dogs in our neighborhood. When we took him for a walk, A lot of people were really afraid of him. Its like they didn’t see a lot of dogs. But by the time we left Bucheon, 但四年後 Four years later, 我們離開富川市 There were like, impromptu dog parties, At the park near our house. Yeah! We did a video of a day in the life Of us back in Bucheon, and you actually saw us 影片裡可以看到我們 At one of these dog parties in the Bucheon park. With lots of different breeds, And we would meet dogs on like every corner. So I feel like there’s been an increase in 這五年來 韓國養寵物的人 Pet ownership in Korea in like the last five years. It is a hip thing to do. You should own a dog. What we have noticed, however, 不過 依我們觀察 That hasn’t really changed, 不變的是 Is that people still seem to be 他們似乎還是 A little bit afraid of cats. 有點怕貓 Yeah, maybe the whole cat thing hasn’t really hit, 對 大概喵喵旋風還不夠強 It’s hit Japan alright. We even had a local coffee shop in Bucheon where 在富川那有間咖啡廳 People had two cats walking around at Twelveda 養了兩隻貓 在Twelveda閒晃 Hi we miss you! Some people would go in 一群人進去 and the girls would like FREAK, 然後女生就像被嚇瘋 Freeze in terror! I mean they would be like, 她們就 AHHHHHHHHHHHHH 啊~~~~~~ And I mean like, it’s a cat in a café. Do you think this cat would like a feral cat That’s gonna like hunt you down in the wilderness? Like if I was in the Savannah I would scream like a girl. I’ll tell you one thing. I know that back when I was in Canada I was like the Ace Ventura of stray cats. 我就像流浪貓界的王牌威龍一樣 I could be like 我只要說 “COME TO ME, MY ANIMALS” 「來吧,我動物界的朋友們」 And they would come up and purr and be friendly In Korea I have not met The point is that I don’t think people 我認為主要原因是 Are as comfortable with pet cats yet. So, if you bring your pet to Korea, What are you going to see pet-wise in Korea? Well, within the past five years 最近這五年 We’ve also seen an increase of pet stores. I mean really, I feel like there’s a pet store 我說真的 現在四處可見寵物店 On every corner now. 滿街開 Except the thing is 只是 These pet stores are really small shops. I haven’t actually seen any 我沒看過 Ginormous kind of 像沃爾瑪 Wal-Mart-sized pets’ mart. You know where they have 就是那種 Aisles dedicated to just like 用走道分區的 例如 Iguana colostomy bags and what not 鬣蜥結腸造口術的造口袋區 諸如此類 What the?! There’s the iguana colostomy bag section at Pet ‘smart! Look, I’m not making this up. He’s definitely making this up. Now I know that Korea doesn’t have the land for making So all these little tiny pet shops 所以在這些小寵物店 I’ve noticed 我發現 Pretty much sell the exact same thing over and over again. So it’s not like you go to all these different pet stores And this one has like, organic And this one has something for you pet I was going to say pet chicken. I don’t know why that came into my mind. We have a friend whose cat’s name is Chicken. 我們有個朋友的貓叫Chicken(雞) Its true, the name is Chicken. Chicken I wouldn’t say they stock the same things 我不是說他們都進一樣的貨 I complain because, Spudgy 我抱怨是因為 You might think is a small dog, 你們可能覺得Spudgy是小型犬 But he’s actually not a small dog in Korea. Right. The pet stores will all have like, 對 這裡的寵物店都只有 Small, 小號 “Medium”-sized clothing 「中」號的衣服 or harnesses or crates, 遛狗繩和籠子 but they don’t fit Spudgy, so. 但Spudgy都不適用 Spudgy’s too big. A lot of the dogs we find here, Most of the time are just small toy dogs. A lot of Yorkies here. We rarely see giant dogs here. I really want to see a big dog in Korea It’s not really popular. No. 但真不常見 Not yet. We’ve seen like a German shepherd 我們看過德國狼犬 Here and there 在各地都看過 But that really horrifies people. There are some bulldogs running around. They have some dire wolves as well. Yeah. That’s right a couple of those. That’s why I think A lot of small, very small-medium kind of clothing 很多店賣小 中小尺寸的衣服 And stuff so 和用品 If you do have a big dog and you’re coming to Korea You’re going to have to bring all that stuff with you 就必須把狗狗的用品一併帶上 Including big size bones— 包含大骨頭 Hold on. People actually put sweaters on giant dogs? Yes. 會 People have different 大家會買不同尺寸的 Pet-sized bowls, pet sized stands, pet sized bones, 寵物碗 碗架 骨頭 You can’t get any of that in Korea for a big dog. I haven’t seen any giant bones for dogs. So if you’re travelling back and forth, And you want a crate for your dog, You’re not going to get that in Korea So you’re going to have to specially order it 你需要去訂做一個 Or bring it with you. One big difference we did notice though Is that the veterinarian costs in Korea 就是在韓國看獸醫的費用 Are SO MUCH CHEAPER 比加拿大便宜太多了 Than what they are back in Canada 在加拿大的獸醫診療費用 Like, HOLY SMOKES 天哪 I remember that when we were bringing Spudgy to Canada We had to get paperwork for him 我們要幫牠申請相關文件 To say that he’s 證明牠 Able to travel and whatnot, That he’s healthy and rabies free and all that stuff We brought him to the vet, the vet looked him over Signed the paperwork, gave it to us 簽署證明文件交給我們 FOR 免 FREE! But when we wanted to come back to Korea with Spudgy We had to take him to the vet again, 必須再帶牠去看一次獸醫 And the vet 那個獸醫 Just to LOOK at Spudgy 光看著Spudgy Cost 70 bucks! Because they’re like, it’s your first time visiting our place, Let me look at your dog for 70 dollars And let me give you those papers That you got for free back in Korea 的文件給你們 For another 70 dollars. So it cost 140 bucks for something that is free here. And what really confused me about it 讓我非常疑惑的是 Was that they 他們 I thought they would do blood work or something She looks at him, she touches him, 她看一看 摸一摸 She’s like, 就說 “You’re good, you’re so good” 「你很好 你很健康」 Let me give you this Ok so if you’re visiting a vet for the first time in Korea They don’t have like that 他們不收 Basic visiting fee, 基本費 They’ll charge you for whatever they do, 依做的檢查收費 Blood work, and medicine, and stuff But its not going to be like a base fee. But it’s so cheap. So Spudgy has had a couple of surgeries. He dislocated his knee once And they had to give him a surgery which 必須要開刀 They shaved into his knee bone to give him a new groove Because he had like rubbed off the groove And it was a very extensive surgery And here it cost like a few hundred bucks Where when we told people that before They said that their vet 他們說 When they got their dog to get the exact same surgery 他們的狗做相同的手術 Cost a few thousand. Yeah. I mean I’ve heard stories about my friends spending Thousands and thousands of dollars 上千元 On their cat or dog Staying overnight at the vet 住院 And about the medicine, and 和醫藥費上 For us? Its like, Spudgy is on a lot of medicine, Spudgy需要服用很多藥物 And we spend around, 500 bucks a month? 500 bucks a month we spend on Spudgy’s medicine 每月500加幣是Spudgy的醫藥費 but we know that if this was back in Canada 但在加拿大的話 we would be like “Spudgy I’m sorry but 我們只好跟Spudgy說「抱歉 we can’t afford you anymore, be free! Got out into the wild! Spudgy be free! Spudgy! Father a new pack of wild Spudgies!” I wanna see a bunch of babies with blue stripes but We can’t afford you anymore. 我們已經養不起你了 Yeah, were just joking. So don’t be worried about vets in Korea. They’re always going to have a basic level of English Up to like Super Awesome They Lived Overseas English And you’ll be able to communicate with them 你能順利和他們溝通 We’ve never actually had any communication issues with our vets, They have always been very clear and concise 他們都非常言簡意賅 So we understand 讓我們能瞭解 What they are going to be doing to Spudgy. So the thing we’ve noticed that aren’t really changing yet about pets in Korea 我們注意到在韓國還沒改變的一點 Is that 就是 In North America pets are kind of like this 在北美 寵物算是 Acknowledged extension of your family, you know 家庭的一份子 Your uglier, hairier child. One time we were heading home with Spudgy 有一次我們要帶Spudgy回家 And he was in his little travel crate And we got into the taxi And the taxi driver wanted to put Spudgy 那計程車司機想把Spudgy IN THE TRUNK! Oh yeah, just put your dog in the trunk. And we’re like, no, were not going to put our dog in the trunk. No. Would you put your child in the trunk? That would just, 這 Nnnnneeeeeeevvvvvveeeerrrr 絕不會 Happen in North America. So things like, doggy day care, 像狗狗照護 And like personal trainer, 狗狗教練這類 That kind of thing isn’t quite happening in Korea yet. I think that they’re working their way 我覺得現在有在 Towards it 慢慢發展 But I think that at the moment Its still not super pet friendly yet. Yeah. I’ve definitely seen more demands now For like, doggy day care. And they like do have dog trainers But it’s mostly for the like really bad dogs. In turn, we’ve met a lot of 我們遇過很多 Poorly trained dogs. They don’t know how to interact with 牠們不知道該如何 Other dogs very well, 好好與其他狗狗互動 Like I want to see more people walk up to their dog, 我希望能看到主人走向狗狗 And be like, 然後說 “ANJA!” 「坐下!」(韓語) and the dogs like sitting down 狗狗就坐下 like, waiting at the lights 等待獎勵 all the dogs are like— 但所有的狗都 I see so many people who are just like, 我看很多人都一副 “I don’t know what to do with my dog!” Like a fire hose. Stop! Uhh!” 停!呃~」 Spudgy is very well trained, he’s like Spudgy非常訓練有素 We’re like, 我們說 sit, 坐 stop, 停 come here, 過來 follow us, 跟上 he knows how to obey where 牠會服從 other dogs we don’t really see that kind of 在其他狗身上我們看不到 level of communication between master and dog. We’ve also has some problems where dogs Are like, off the leash, And coming at Spudgy, like violently, Spudgy And I am like, 我心想 I am going to kick your dog across the field If you don’t keep that dog on a leash. If you have a violent angry dog, You should probably get that fixed. But the owner was just like, 但那主人的態度是 “Ha! Ha ha…..” And I’m like it’s not funny. It’s actually not funny that your dog is like that. People don’t really pick up their poop! They don’t pick up the poop! I haven’t seen people 我還沒看過 Pick up their dog’s poop 他們在狗便便後 After their dog pooped, 把狗便便撿起來 We have cute little blue bags. I’m not really sure how cute they are 我不確定它們多可愛 Because they’re poop bags They’re covered in doggy bones! We have poop bags, To pick up Spudgy’s poop 來撿Spudgy的便便 And we don’t see people pick of their dog’s poop here! We have seen some 我們看過 Korean people pick up their dog’s poop with like 有些韓國人用一疊衛生紙 Layers of tissue paper? 來撿狗便便 And I’m like, 我想 You can buy stuff for that. They’re call poop bags. But it’s not that common So some dogs will like 所以有些狗就會 Curl it out on the sidewalk And you’re like, that is not ok. I’m hoping that this is going to change over time. So the last thing we want to say is that, 最後我們想說的是 Unfortunately, there are a lot of puppy-mill 很不幸的 韓國有很多小狗繁殖場 Pet stores in Korea 寵物店 So, you’ll see these little dogs In these little class cubes And they’re all like stacked in a window With the sun shining down on them 被太陽直射 And it’s so heartbreaking. Every time I pass by I want to buy All of the animals and take care of them. Please don’t buy animals from there. You’re just only feeding into the economy of puppy mills 你只會促進小狗繁殖的經濟 Adopt a dog instead. Go to them, get a 到那裡去 Adopted dog 領養狗狗 But don’t support the puppy mill industry here, please. Yeah, and a lot of foreigners come to Korea And they’re lonely, and they want a cat or dog And they see them in the window. There are so many abandoned dogs and cats 有很多被遺棄的狗狗貓貓 At these shelters. They could be the next Spudgy. Spudgy Spudgy was adopted, that’s right. 沒錯 Spudgy是被收養的 And look at him, 看看牠 He’s a super star now. 牠現在是大明星了 That’s right bitches! Also, they’re already older So you know their personality You don’t have worry about getting a puppy Not knowing how to train it 訓練小狗 And have it like, you know 遇到 Pee and poop all over your house And then you hate it 讓你恨透 Woo! Woo! Woo! Ima puppy! Ima puppy! And then you hate it 然後你討厭牠 And then you give it away And just start the cycle all over again. Which we’ve heard of people doing before. Yes. A lot of people come to Korea, And they stay for like a year 住一年 And then they just leave their dog or cat So if you want more information on specialized pets 如果你需要更多專業的寵物資訊 Like iguanas and whatnot 例如鬣蜥 Or if you want to know more about 或想知道更多 Like dog food and cat food costs in Korea Were going to talk about that more in our blog post 我們會在部落格裡談到更多 In more detail, 更細 So make sure you click on the link here, and follow that. Was the link over there?
