Disney theme parks are home to a variety of popular rides and attractions, but one type of ride that could be considered a Disney staple is the water based Dark Ride.

It's a classic concept.

There's even something about the smell of these water rides that immediately reminds you of Disney.

Really, we're not crazy.

If you've been to the Disney theme parks, you know the exact smell we're talking about and fun fact.

The indoor water.

I'd smell like that because Disney uses bro mean to treat the water instead of chlorine.

Now this category of ride didn't originally debut at a Disney theme park.

It was at the 1964 New York World's Fair that Walt Disney and his team debuted the classic water based Dark Ride.

It's a small world, a timeless score.

Animatronics, a boat and dim dilating.

All provided the perfect combination for a successful attraction.

Then other attractions followed suit.

After it's a Small World opened at Disneyland in 1966 it was followed by Pirates of the Caribbean in 1967 where both these dark rides became Disney Staples, with Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom opening in 1971.

It's a Small World was an opening day attraction.

But believe it or not, Pirates of the Caribbean wasn't for sort of a non reason.

We'll talk more about that later in the video.

But since 1971 many other water based dark rides have been added to the Walt Disney World theme parks.

Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Animal Kingdom are all home to some of these great rides.

So today we're going to be discussing some Disney history while ranking and counting down the top seven best water based dark rides at Walt Disney World number seven.

Living With the Land.

We're starting our list off at the Land Pavilion and Epcot, living with the Land formerly called Listen to the Land, opened with the park on October 1st 1982.

It's probably one of the most untouched attractions at Epcot that's kept the education aspect of the original concept of the park.

After boarding the boat, you'll start your journey off by exploring a tropical rainforest, then a desert and lastly, the American prairies.

All these show scenes are filled with animatronics, and actually the buffalo animatronics were originally built for the Western River Expedition attraction that was supposed to go in frontier land at Magic Kingdom.

Now the second half of the ride is pretty unique, since it takes you out of the dark and through a sort of backstage greenhouse to her as you head through the production and research facility, the right takes you into living laboratories, where scientists from Epcot and the U.

S.

Department of Agriculture are exploring innovative ways to produce bountiful harvests.

It's also a good place to keep an eye out for some not so hidden mickeys along your way as well.

Living with the land is one of the longer attraction still left at Walt Disney World, So if you're looking for that bang for your buck in terms of right time, you'll definitely want to check out this ride.

Number six.

The Grand Fiesta Tour.

Staying at FBI, we'll take a trip into a world chill case and head into the Mexico Pavilion, where it's home to the Grand Fiesta tour starring the three Caballero's.

This version of the ride opened on April 6 2007 and replaced the original attraction, El Rio del Tiempo.

After boarding your boat, you'll glide past the marketplace and into the main shell building, where the entire ride lasts just over seven minutes.

The ride uses a mixture of physical sets and screens that are primarily used to show Jose and Panchito looking for their band member, Donald.

In addition to the screens, there's a fun little scene that's similar to It's a Small World with dancing animatronic dolls.

But the finale is probably the ride's best seen its vibrant fun.

There's fireworks, physical sets, traditional animatronics and music.

It's the perfect balance for a dark ride show scene way.

Actually, three caballeros animatronics were only added in 2015 replacing Surprise.

Surprise some screens with a decent length and a kinetic variety of different show scenes.

It's an entertaining and fun ride to take the number six spot.

Number five Na'vi River Journey Walt Disney World's newest water based dark ride, opened in Pandora at Animal Kingdom in May of 2017.

This ride was a great addition to Animal Kingdom, since the park didn't already have a boat ride.

As you board your read vote, your journey begins through the Valley of Mora.

Now Disney used some pretty impressive screen technology mixed with physical sets, creating a seamless canvas of the via luminescent forest.

The scenery is beautiful, and there's some really cool details to take a look at, but in terms of right time, it falls kinda short.

Coming in at just five minutes.

There I was, actually is supposed to be longer, but when Disney was building Pandora, they were severely over budget.

So Disney scaled back the ride's length, and it was also originally meant to include a drop is well, now.

Na'vi River Journey is home to Disney's most advanced audio animatronic, created to date the Na'vi Shamin of songs.

This figure is very impressive and very lifelike way one of the main reasons why you should experience this attraction.

But after the Na'vi Shannon seen the right sort of just ends, it's a real shame.

It only features one animatronic, since this sort of dark ride at Disney would usually feature multiple animatronics to tell the story.

Although not the river Journey uses newer technology, if all sure, in a few areas, when you compare it to the rest of the rides in its category.

So if you don't go in expecting to experience something like Pirates of the Caribbean, you'll probably really enjoy it.

Number four.

Frozen Ever after moving back into world, showcase It F kind, we'll head into the Norway Pavilion, frozen ever after, opened in June of 2016 and replaced the original water based Dark Ride Maelstrom.

Now there's a lot of people who don't like this ride just for the fact that it replaced the maelstrom.

It's frozen, and it really doesn't belong in Epcot.

But when you just consider frozen ever after without all that in mind, the ride's immersive.

It features some of the most advanced audio animatronics and includes a bit of a thrill to top it all off.

When you board your Viking ship, you're actually boarding the original maelstrom boats as you head through your journey where you're Theo.

Entire ride is filled with songs from the movie, and all the characters are brought rightto life.

The Elsa animatronic and the let it go scene is so fluid in life like that, you could easily mistake it for animation.

The right does fall a bit on the short side at only five minutes.

But when comparing, it's a Na'vi River journey.

There's a lot more variety in what's happening around you to keep you stimulated for the entire ride.

As for the thrill, well, you do trouble backwards for a small part, and the whole you might get wet.

Thing comes into play with the 28 foot drop after the marshmallow.

Seen Overall, expect some really cool animatronics and a fully immersive, dark right experience on frozen ever after number three.

It's a small world.

Let's take a trip to Magic Kingdom and head into fantasy land to look at the classic.

It's a Small World.

The ride opened with Magic Kingdom on October 1st 1971 and it's based off the original.

It's a small world that was built for the 1964 World's Fair through the 13 minute ride at Walt Disney World.

It's a small world features over 300 animatronic dolls representing many different cultures and regions from around the world through a song for world peace.

According to Time magazine, It's a small World is considered to be the most plates song in music history.

I mean, you definitely do hear it a lot through those 13 minutes and in many languages to now, in terms of comparing, It's a small world to the technology of today.

Well, you really can't, but it still maintains that classic Disney charm.

The ride's so simple, but there's just something about it that's distinctly Disney and with a longer right time, it's why it's taken the number three spot on the list.

Number two.

Pirates of the Caribbean.

Moving Over into Adventure Land at Magic Kingdom It's a pirate's life for me at Pirates of the Caribbean now.

Although the Ride is a classic and extremely popular, it wasn't an opening day attraction at Magic Kingdom See when building Walt Disney World.

The Imagineers decided against building the ride.

Since Florida was so close to the Caribbean, they thought people would be accustomed to pirates and wouldn't be interested in the story.

Well, Disney was wrong, and after many guests complained this and he had the Florida version of Pirates of the Caribbean built by December of 1973.

As you step into your boat, you embark on an eight and 1/2 minute journey into the world of the pirate's life.

But before you see any real pirates, you plunge down a 14 foot drop under the Magic Kingdom train tracks, so you may get what now you'll find yourself fully immersed into the world of these pirates through multiple show scenes that feature 100 and 23 different pirate Villager and animal audio animatronics, the use of smells like burning wood and a catchy song to top it all off.

With fact that there's so many life sized animatronics on this ride, and with highly detailed large physical sets, it really creates an immersive environment for the entire journey.

Pirates of the Caribbean is the quintessential water based dark ride and sets a really high bar for future attractions.

Added to the Disney parks number one Splash Mountain.

Now we'll head just next door to Frontier Land, where it's a zippity doo Dah Day at Splash Mountain.

The right officially opened on October 2nd 1992 and it's the perfect balance of a water based stark ride infused with thrill elements of a classic log flume ride.

Now, although there's a lot of times when you're outdoors, the Dark Ride's show scenes take up over five minutes of the 10 and 1/2 minute ride.

So at the core, it's really a dark ride.

Splash Mountain features 69 audio animatronics that tell the story of Rare Rabbits Adventures to find his laughing place.

The sets are vibrant, and each scene features a different, catchy musical number as well.

It includes How do you d'oh Everybody's Got a Laughing place and, lastly, zippity doo dah during the ride's iconic finale.

Splash Mountain also provides you with a sizable thrill on the big drop, as well as a few other smaller drops along the way.

So be prepared to possibly get wet with a longer ride time than most rides.

In addition to the detailed show scenes, animatronics and the thrilling water elements, this is the perfect combination for a hit attraction, which is why Splash Mountain is the number one water based dark ride on the list.

So there you have it.

Those air all of Walt Disney World's water based dark rides now, which right on the list is your favorite.
