Please take notes as I progress, because you are going to find all of these hugely beneficial. Now, the first video interview question I want you to prepare for is, why should we hire you? What makes you to stand out candidate Why should we hire you? And my tip for answering this question is that the number one thing that will make you the standout candidate? In the video interview, it is the QUALITIES you have that are a specific match for the job you are applying for. Now, there are a number of brilliant qualities to give. And these include professionalism, being somebody who is positive and enthusiastic, you are great at working as part of a team, you can work under pressure… and also this is a very good one: You have a desire to continually learn, improve and develop. So, here is my suggested answer to the video interview question Why should we hire you? Here we go. “I believe you should hire me because, first and foremost, the QUALITIES I have built up over the years are a strong match for the job description. I am PROFFESSIONAL, I am always POSITIVE & ENTHUSIASTIC, I love WORKING AS PART OF A TEAM, I will THRIVE UNDER PRSSURE, and I always continually look to IMPROVE AND DEVELOP in any role I undertake. I also believe you should hire me because I have a level of COMMERCIAL AWARENESS that means I understand, that in order for your business to be successful, people like me have to WORK HARD, CONSISTENTLY DELIVER and also SUPPORT and HELP OTHERS in the team to meet the company goals.” What I like about that answer is you are giving a number of reasons why they should hire you. You are also showing a level of maturity and wisdom in the fact you are saying you understand that in this role, you have to work hard for your company to be successful, but you are also giving them those important qualities. That's a great answer to the video interview question: Why should we hire you? Let's take a look at another one. Now, this is a difficult video interview question… Why did you leave your last job? This sometimes catches people out. But make sure you prepare a brilliant answer to it. So my tip for answering this video interview question is: the best reason to give, is that you want to EMBRACE A FRESH CHALLENGE with a new and an exciting employer. Do not say this to the interview question, why did you leave your last job? Don't say this at all. “I wanted to leave because I felt the company wasn’t going in the right direction. Things felt flat there and everyone was demotivated. I felt I was ready for a change to be honest, and this job looks very appealing.” Now, on the surface, you might think, well, there's nothing really wrong with that! But to a hiring manager listening to that, it is a negative answer. Because if things are flat, they're going to require you and the other team members to lift things up. Say this instead to the interview question, why did you leave your last job? “I wanted to leave for the simple reason I was ready for a new and fresh challenge with an innovative team, and organization, where my skills and qualities will be put to great use. My employer was amazing, they were very supportive and I got on with everybody in the team. We achieved some brilliant things whilst I was there, but it was time for me to move on so I can grow and develop with a new employer.” That is a great answer, because it shows that you are mature, you are intelligent, you are positive about your previous employer and work colleagues, and there's a genuine reason why you want to move on! You know, you want a fresh and new challenge, which is good for an organization. If people are moving on, then it means that new people can come in and you can take your skills somewhere else and work for a different company. That is a great answer to the video interview question: Why did you leave your last job? Next video interview question I want you to prepare for: What's your greatest weakness? This is a tough and common interview question. Now, this is one of those video interview questions where you can fail the entire interview process. My tip for answering this interview question is, avoid at all costs giving a weakness that is required as part of the job. If you need to work as part of a team, don't say… “I would rather work on my own. My weaknesses if I don't like to work with other people.” So, do not say this for the what's your greatest weakness interview question? “I am pleased to say I don’t have any weaknesses. I always carry out my work to a very high standard and I pride myself on not making mistakes or having any flaws.” Now, you might say to me… “Richard, that's a brilliant answer, because I don't have any weaknesses!”. But, the truth is, we all have weaknesses. The strength is being able to spot the weakness and know what to do to improve. So, in response to the interview question, what's your greatest weakness, say this instead. This is a brilliant answer. “I don’t have many weaknesses; however, I believe my greatest weakness is that I sometimes find it hard to ask other people in the team for help or guidance if I need it. I believe this weakness is born out of pride, and the fact I like to figure things out for myself. The truth is, I should ask for help when it’s needed, as this will speed things up for me when I’m completing tasks or projects. I am improving as a person, and my mindset is one that I do genuinely want to continue to develop professionally.” That's a great answer to the tough interview question: What's your greatest weakness? You have to give a weakness. You’ve got to give one. But the important thing is to say that you IDENTIFY and what you are doing to IMPROVE upon that weakness. Next video interview question I want you to prepare for is: What are your greatest strengths? What are your greatest strengths? Tip number one, give three STRENGTHS that are a match for the job that you are applying for. Because then, when you give those strengths, they will resonate positively with the interviewer and they will think… “Well, those strengths are needed for this specific job.” And then this is a great tip… Give two additional strengths that are appealing to all hiring managers and employers. And I'll tell you which two to give in a second. So in total, we are going to give FIVE STRENGTHS, and you'll see that I do something with the answer right now that is quite clever. Here we go. “My greatest strengths include my ability to PROVIDE EXCELLENT SERVICE. I understand that without great service, your business cannot flourish. I can also WORK AS PART OF A TEAM in a supportive manner to complete tasks on time. Another key strength is that can WORK UNDER PRESSURE very well and I will always focus on the task in hand. In addition to those three core strengths, I am also TRUSTWORTHY & LOYAL and I can be relied upon to WORK ALONE UNSUPRVISED to carry out my work to a very high standard.” Now, what you'll notice with the first three strengths, I give the strength, then I say WHY it's important. “One of my strengths is my ability to PROVIDE GREAT SERVICE. I understand that without great service, your business cannot flourish.” That's a clever way to demonstrate the strength you have is a benefit to the interviewer! “I can also work as part of a team to complete tasks on time.” So you know the importance of teamwork. And then your other strength is… working under pressure. So you always focus solely on the task that needs to be done. You block out any pressure. That's a great way to answer the question: What are your greatest strengths? Next video interview question I want you to focus on, is… Why do you want to work here? This is a difficult question, if we're honest. It's a difficult one because most people apply for a job because of the job, not because of the organization, but they want to know what will why do you want to work for us? What has attracted you to our organization? A good tip is to show that you've conducted some RESEARCH. Visit their website and have a look for some positive news stories. Go on the ABOUT US section of their website, or have a look at their LATEST NEWS SECTION and just pick one thing that has attracted you to them. And then also, this is a brilliant tip that nobody else would do: go to the website Glassdoor.com and see what other employees are saying what it's like to work for that company. Now, on GlassDoor.com, current and previous employees can review a company… so they can list PROS and CONS. My advice is to focus on the PROS only. Let me give you a quick example. Let's say, for argument's sake, you were applying to work for McDonald's. So, if we go to GlassDoor.com, this person, who is a current employee, has listed some pros and cons. The pros are proper sound staff, great discount, great breaks and good managers. So, I would just pick out the ones that would be appealing, you know, GOOD STAFF and also GOOD MANAGERS. And I would say: “My research showed me that you are a company that has a great team and highly supportive managers. Therefore, I will be happy in my role and I'll be able to grow and develop professionally.” So, they may say… “Where dis you get that information from?” Say… “Well, I went on GlassDoor.com and I looked at what current and previous employees are saying.” Here is my suggested answer to the video interview question: Why do you want to work here? “When I first saw this position advertised, I conducted some research in regard to the products and services you provide, and also what other employees were saying what it is like to work for you. It quickly became apparent during my research that your customers love your products, and that tells me you are a company that puts your customers at the forefront of everything you do. It also became clear that people who currently work for you, enjoy working here as part of a team, and their manager’s obviously support them to be able to grow and develop in their role. Those are the two main reasons why I would like to work for your company” That's a great answer! It shows that you've carried out some research and therefore you are more likely to stay with their company for a long period of time. Let me now give you some VIDEO INTERVIEW TIPS before I go onto some more interview questions. I'm going to give you seven important video interview tips. And this is all about preparing for a video interview, and also the questions that you should ask at the end. Video interview tip number one: make sure you still WEAR A FORMAL, SMART OUTFIT for the video interview. People say to me… “Richard, what should I wear for a video interview?” And I always say… still wear a formal small outfit! A lot of people don't because they think, well, I'm going to be in my home environment or an office environment. I don't really need to wear anything smart. But you do! This shows that you have prepared well and you are professional. Still wear a formal small outfit. But remember, you're going to be on camera, so avoid bright colors. Because that might be annoying to the interviewer on the screen. So just wear conservative colors: maybe blue, black or grey, but still wear a smart formal outfit. Very important. Video interview tip number two: choose a quiet location where you will not be disturbed from others or noise. Think about it. Where are you going to have the video interview? Make sure it's in a quiet location. So don't sit in your car, on your phone, holding your phone whilst it's rattling. And then there’s other cars driving past! That's not good. That's not professional. And also, make sure the LIGHTING IS GOOD in the room that you are having the video interview. It’s good preparation! Video interview tip number three: make sure you TEST RECORD yourself before the video interview takes place. Now, I always say to people that I help with their video interviews: “Make sure you get in the room, the location that the video interview is going to take place, at least fifteen minutes before… preferably half an hour.” If you do have time to record yourself, get yourself ready. Get used to the environment. Make sure your Internet connection is strong. This is very important. What you do want to do is, go in the area that you are going to have your video interview and then wait for the person to come online, and they can't because your internet connection is weak! Test it beforehand. Video interview tip number four, make sure YOUR SOUND IS ON. This is a big one that people fail to remember! Make sure your sound is on and TEST YOUR WEBCAM as well. Make sure it works. Now, on a lot of computers, there is both an input and an output. So the output is you speaking, and the input is you listening. Check the input and the output. Make sure they are ON and you'll notice you can select a device for sound output. I've got internal speakers. So that means that they're working. And when I speak into my laptop, it's working properly. Test the input and the output as well. Very important! Video interview tip number five: If you're using a smartphone for the video interview, make sure it is STABLE. The best thing is to get a tripod, but you don't want to be going out and spending a load of money on a tripod. So, perhaps stack it up against some books, but make sure it is stable and test it. Make sure you SIT STILL when you are giving your answers on the video, and don't be moving around a lot. You don't want to be rigid, but you need to sit still. Test yourself, or make sure you are in screen. Again, make sure you are in a STRONG WI-FI RECEPTION area. Video interview tip number six: CLOSE ALL WEB AND APP APPLICATIONS. When I record this video, for example, I have to turn off the notification settings. Otherwise, in the top right hand corner of the video, you would see all my emails coming through! So make sure you close all unused web and app applications. And also, turn off any notification settings. Video interview tip number 7: Have some questions ready to ask at the end of your video interview. When they say to you… “What questions do you have for us?” You don't want to say… “I don't really have any, you answered them.” That's what everybody says. Let's show a level of intelligence. Let's show them that you are still really enthusiastic about the job. Here are 3 questions to ask at the end of your video interview. Q. What are your plans for the company over the next three to five years? That tells me that you are interested in the development of the company, but also, you're looking to stay with me for a number of years, which would be appealing to me as a hiring manager! Second question… Q. If I am successful, what could I do in this role to help the company succeed? Again, you are showing a level of intent there that you want to do well for the company. And then finally… Q. Do you have any new products or services coming out soon? Again, you are showing that you are interested in the development of their company. Those are 3 BRILLIANT QUESTIONS to ask in a video interview. Now, if you'd like more video interview questions and answers, make sure you click the link in the top right hand corner of the video.
