Hello, everyone. This is Paul from PM Reviews and today I'll be reviewing a popular shounen anime
this will be a review for Fairy Tail
the story set in the world of magic where magicians are split into groups called guilds
these guilds have the sole purpose of completing missions to maintain order
the ones who wreak havoc on known as members of dark guilds. The female lead character
Lucy dreams of becoming a member of a guild
however she doesn't want to join just any old guild. She wants to join
Fairy Tail. One day Lucy meets a boy with spikey pink hair that goes around with his
talking flying cat
they introduce themselves as Natsu and Happy, and to Lucy's luck Natsu and Happy are
members a Fairy Tail and after being asked to join
Lucy starts the adventure of a life time. There a lot of characters in Fairy Tail
so I'll only be describing the main four characters
there is the male lead Natsu who comes across as a
mobile wrecking ball with the hint of a perverted side
the female lead Lucy who can summon spirits with golden keys but regardless is
only useful for fanservice
Gray an ice wizard with a stripping habit and Erza
a badass walking wardrobe
the episodes introducing the show weren't all too interesting but did set the general
theme
and I personally didn't get into the show until the arc called the Phantom arc
the show had a dull beginning that displayed minor missions and reused animations
however the show really reaches its peak in the middle episodes and had its fair share
of epic moments
the series does unfortunately seem to go downhill towards the end but somewhat
makes up for it with its better animation
the main problem that people seem to have with Fairy Tail is the way it portrays the
power of friendship and for the most part
I'd have to agree. I feel as though the show uses this premise as an excuse to
give the characters some
ass pull power boosts. Not to mention the overused speeches about friendship can
get
annoying after a certain point. Another complaint people seem to have is Hiro
Mashima's inability to kill people off
and even though I think the complaints are way too overblown. It is still noticeable
there are some occasions where the death the character may have been more fitting
also every fight seems to follow a formula
with Natsu's fights it usually goes like this. Natsu will be getting his ass
whooped and then after shoving something down his throat
it's all OK or in Erza's case just pull out a never-before-seen
armor when you're losing a fight. However, with regard to the fact that they are namely
the strongest guild
I guess it should make sense that all its members are stupidly overpowered
there are two problems in particular that I have about fairy tail the first
being the lack of development for the characters
it was set in the beginning that one of Natsu's major goals was to find his so
called father the dragon Igneel
as of the 175 episodes that are out, I feel as though Natsu is
in no way closer to that goal
also Lucy who has made significant progress in terms and strength from the
beginning the show
for some reason is only shown getting thrown around and stripped. It really
saddens me that the female lead is portrayed as so useless and I think that she
deserves her own moments to show off her strength
also some things just seem way too idealistic
no matter where they are or who they are up against the guild is able to protect
EVERYONE. This is where I wish they could be a character death so that the guild
can be somewhat disillusioned to this idea and make room for development
needless to say I'm not saying the show doesn't have any development. On several
occasions characters have shown some and the reason I say it needs more is those
moments are among the best in fairy tail
the show could be so much better if more of it was brought out. The other problem I
have is the excessive fanservice
at this point fanservice has been well established as part of the show
and I have come to accept that however there are points in the show where fan service
takes away from the seriousness in the show and really isn't necessary
on top of that some valuable time is taken by the fanservice that could have been
used for something else
also I feel as though the show suffers from its younger audience time slot
the fights look rather childish without blood and the show doesn't seem to be
able to bring out the darker aspects that were flashed in the early portion of the show
also whenever the show gets serious it feels the need to add comic relief that
in my opinion ruins the moment
however the fact that there are 10 year olds watching the show doesn't seem to stop the
creators from waving ass and tits on the screen every 10 minutes
even putting all this into account I still enjoyed watching Fairy Tail for my
attachment to some of the characters
there are some things that the show does very well. Ignoring the earlier part of
the show, the animation looks really good
no matter how big of an ass pull it pulled, I was never once bored during a fight while
watching Fairy Tail
the lack of deaths is fulfilled by the several heartwarming moments that
riddled throughout the show. Comparing it to other shounen animes, Fairy tail
also doesn't have many fillers
and even when it does I feel that Fairy Tail really knows how to do its fillers
through means of comedy and relationship built up
Fairy Tail's jokes are rather frequently reused but are still always funny and some
of the earlier episodes even had my stomach hurting
and even though I complained about the fanservice earlier
I have to say that Fairy Tail's female characters do look pretty damn good, so
the fanservice isn't always unwanted. The
last thing I want to mention is what I feel is the greatest part a Fairy Tail
its soundtrack
even though it's not music that I thought I'd be into, the more I heard it, the more
I loved it
I feel the music is close to perfect when it comes to matching the scenes
and even alone they're great to listen to. However when I look at the response
the show I feel as though Fairy Tail is similar to the Big 3
what I mean by that is there seems to be only two groups watching the show
the hard-core fans who praise and defend it as the greatest anime to come into
existence
and the haters who trash the show to no end. Fairy Tail is by no means perfect
but it isn't all bad either so I think that too many people express extremely
biased views about the show
if you're thinking of watching the show then I would say go ahead
but you shouldn't expect anything more than your typical shounen and if you like Fairy
Tail, I suggest that you watch another shounen anime
or if you like the idea of magicians check out Fate/Zero. I'm looking forward to the anime's
return and give Fairy Tail
a 7 out of 10
