There were two sets of parents and they wanted to know why I had the nerve to tell the kids
in my class who were grade 8 students, they weren't even little kids at the time, grade
8 students, why I had the nerve to tell them that I was in a same sex relationship, Actually,
those weren't the words they used, but we won't go there, they weren't very nice.
I was called a sissy when I was young. The double whammy was black and sissy.
We have a systemic problem, so we need to have the conversation. And we need to have
the highest possible powers in our organizations to say: "Homophobia is not okay". And there's
no excuse to be silent. There's no excuse.
To me, it's all about us having the children grow up without the hatred. But sadly the
hatred is there in many cases. And I think we have to teach to unhate.
I believe that nobody should be judged for who they are or who they like. Or how they
feel inside. Just who they are.
