Colleagues: There is no doubt that Ontario voters are calling for change in this election
on June the 7th. The Liberals are trailing in the polls, the PCs are in front and the
NDP are gaining ground every day. Doug Ford has pledged to cut six billion dollars from
programs in Ontario, at the same time reduce corporate income taxes. Those are cuts to
public services people depend on every day, including education and health care and at
the end of the day, those cuts mean jobs. His efficiencies will do nothing to support
public services or good public service jobs in this province. On the other hand, the NDP
and Andrea Horwath have put forward a very progressive platform with significant investments
in public services and much-needed new programs for everyone living in the province of Ontario.
The NDP's platform on education aligns with our Building Better Schools plan. They have
committed to eliminating EQAO. They have committed to fixing the funding formula through an independent
review. They have committed to capping class sizes in Kindergarten at 26 and eliminating
Kindergarten/Grade 1 splits. It is because of that, all of those reasons, that your Executive
is supporting the NDP and the leader Andrea Horwath in this election and I wanted you
to hear that from me first. Later today, Andrea Horwath and her campaign team will make their
first stop at the ETFO office so that we can begin our work together for the people of
this province leading into the June 7th election to work for change that works.
