The planned merger of the two state broadcasters,
RNZ and TVNZ,
could mean an increase of Maori content
on a new public broadcasting entity.
The chief executives of RNZ and TVNZ both agreed that te reo content,
including programmes aimed at Maori,
are a vital part of reflecting New Zealand's indigenous culture -
providing audiences with more local content.
Eruera Rerekura reports.
TVNZ and RNZ appear to be friendly allies.
And providing local content, the TVNZ CEO says,
is what it does the best.
And there's an expectation,
this former broadcaster says,
that a new public broadcasting entity
will provide more Maori content.
As to what this means for Maori news and content
on a new broadcasting service will be discussed
further down the track
after the business case is put forward.
For the future of broadcasting to do well.
