really sack or get sacked you know, as in the sense of fired. Like we can use sack as

a regular verb like somebody sacked someone or he got sacked. Or yeah. We

say somebody gets sacked. So either way. Meaning. they got fired. So

people often ask what is what does sack have to do with being fired ? Where did... where

did that come from ? Why do we say that somebody got sacked when they got fired

or laid off ? All right. So let's look at the note here. If someone gets sacked , he

or she is told that their services are no longer needed. Basically , it , it is

an informal way to say to get fired. Yeah. Let's continue. The origin of these

terms dates back to before the Industrial Revolution. Workers,

tradesmen, laborers you know, craftsmen or whatever they were , would travel around

looking for work. So they didn't always have very steady work. So they had to

travel around. And they used to carry around their tools or supplies in a

large sack. Yeah. They didn't have any toolboxes. This was before the days of

toolboxes. So and it was probably a little easier for them to carry a sack

anyway. It would be customary for them to leave their sack with the employer or

whoever hired them. And only use the tools needed for each job. Once the

employer felt that their services were no longer needed their sack would be

returned and they would be told to leave. So basically that's where it came from.

Thus the term get sacked was born. So they got sacked because the sack was

returned to them. That let them know that well basically you're fired. We don't
