字幕列表 影片播放 列印英文字幕 Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Prepositional Phrase nine. The prepositional phrase today is "on fire. " Okay. Let's take a look at the note. We actually got four meanings of on fire here used this way and give examples for all of them. So again, let's look at the first one. Being burned by a fire or aflame. So that's the first use. If we say something is on fire you could literally meaning that you is on fire. That it is actually burning. So here's the first example. It was on fire. It was burning for a while. I'm not sure how long it started , but it took some time to put it out. Meaning to put out the fire. Wherever this was. Maybe a car or can or who knows whatever it was that was on fire. All right. Let's look at number two. Achieving exceptional results recently. So recently you were on fire. You were performing much better than you usually do. So let's look at the first one. That team is on fire. They have a 12-game winning streak. So they won 12 games in a row. Wow ! They're hot. They're on fire. Okay. Well let's look at number three here. Having an intense burning feeling or you know sensation. I've got a serious case of wind burn on my feet from wearing wet sneakers in cold weather. It felt like my feet were on fire. Yeah. So maybe if you got the wind burn and especially on your feet you're trying to walk and it's ouch, ouch, ouch. Something like that. Because they felt like they were on fire. Okay. Good Very attractive or sexy. Look at that sexy dress she showed up in. All eyes are on her. She is on fire. We could mean it that way too. All right. Let's look at the last note here. The phrase on fire probably came from the use of hot . Remember "hot "as a word has many, many meanings. But the meanings here would probably mean ... well hot often means. popular. So that's how it one way that we could use it or doing extremely well. So yeah again like just like you with the 12-game winning streak, we could say somebody's on a hot streak. They're performing better. So the team could be on a hot streak winning many games in a row or maybe a hitter have got a you know , a hit streak maybe hit so many ... he got a base hit in so many games in a row. He is very hot. So if you want to emphasize that more. And make it sound like even you know, on fire. He's so hot he's on fire. So that's kind of where the idea came from. So thus on fire was used to emphasize this idea. Okay Anyway, I hope you got it. I hope it was clear. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
