Hi this is this is Tutor Nick P and this is Idioms 284. The idiom today is in one's blood.
Okay. Let's take a look at the note here. If a
certain quality or feature is in one's blood, he or she has something that is
part of their nature and often other members of their family may have the
same quality or feature. So they have a special quality or feature in them and
we think that it's just in their blood. They are naturally that way. Okay. Let's
continue. If something is in one's blood, it alludes to the idea it is in his or
her DNA and therefore part of their nature. So it's kind of almost literally
in their blood. All right. And we have three examples here. Example number one.
It is not surprising he is such a great musician. It runs in his blood. Both his
parents are professional musicians. Okay. Or number two. The reason Yao Ming was
a great basketball player and so tall is that it ran in his blood. Yeah. If you've
ever seen pictures ... I remember a long time ago, I had seen pictures of his
parents and they were both very tall too. Even though Yao Ming I think ended up
taller than both of them, but it was surprising, because his mother was well
over six feet as well. I always remember that and I ... If I remember correctly I
think she was actually on the Olympic basketball team for China. So and both of
them were basketball players and maybe even coaches. So it really ran in his
blood or ran in their blood. All right. Number three here. He has been a fighter
since the day he was born. It just runs in his blood. His father was the same way.
So this is another way that you just may hear it. Okay. I hope you got it . I hope it was
clear. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
