字幕列表 影片播放 列印英文字幕 Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Adjective Phrase 33. The adjective phrase today is drop dead. Okay. All right. Let's take a look at the note here. If we describe someone or something as drop dead, we mean that he or she or even it is so spectacularly attractive another person cannot help but to notice them. Drop dead is also used before some nouns to mean like rudely dismissive too. Yeah. Remember the ... we also sometimes can tell somebody to drop dead as kind of like an insult as well. You know, it's a kind of an imperative command. Like it's a little bit like go to hell. Drop dead. You know, you know, somebody you don't like. You could say that to. It's not very nice. Of course it's offensive, but that's another use and another meaning of drop dead as well. But here we're looking at the adjective meaning and and even possibly the adverb meaning. So let's continue here. Drop dead can be used both as an adjective and an adverb phrase. This phrase of course implies that the beauty or attractiveness is so strong it could nearly cause one to die. So , so beautiful you're almost like ( a gasp ) and you fall over and you die. Have a heart attack or something. So that's what we mean. Okay. And let's look we actually have four examples to cover all this here. Example number one. That actor always shows up with a drop dead beauty. So a very beautiful girl . Maybe he's always famous for showing up with very beautiful women. When he goes to parties. Okay. Or number two. She wore a drop-dead dress. You know, or dropped an evening gown or something like that. It's used a lot about clothes, especially if they're very sexy. They got everyone's attention. Okay and number three. She turned into a beauty. Now she is drop-dead gorgeous. Yeah this is ... this is a very, very common way we often hear that somebody may say somebody is drop-dead gorgeous. Again so beautiful , it almost caused you to die. You know basically and this is one way that it's used as an adverb too. Okay and number four. He is very ... he is a very unpleasant person and he's notorious for his drop dead attitude. Well, this is the one that we mean is rudely dismissive. You know that... that goes more back to the imperative we talked about. Like if you tell somebody to drop dead. So if they have a drop dead attitude, they don't like you. They don't care. They don't care that they upset you or offend you. You know, they are like ... you know, their attitude is like drop dead. Get out of here. I don't care. So that's what I mean so it could also be used as that way. As an adjective too. Okay. Anyway, I hope you got it. I hope it was clear. I hope it was informative. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
