Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Noun Phrase 36. The noun phrase today is
knuckle sandwich. Okay. This noun phrase means a punch in
the mouth. Yeah. So you you can imagine of course you know these are your knuckles
and you give somebody a knuckle sandwich, it means you, you hit them right in the
mouth with your knuckles. Of course that would be a punch. So it's usually meant
as a joke. It's meant in a humorous way. We say to give somebody a knuckle
sandwich. All right. Let's continue with the note. It is often used in humor as a
joke. Right. The phrase was originally used in connection with tough street
gangs a long, long time ago. It was commonly used in films such as the
Bowery Boys and The Dead End. Yeah. The Bowery Boys was already very
very old even when I was a kid. It was repeats on TV in black and white and it
was already very, very old at that time. So you're really going pretty far back.
All right. Let's look at a couple of examples here. Example number one. If you
don't stop teasing me, I'm going to give you a knuckle sandwich. A lot of times people
will actually make a fist like that too when they say it. And number two. How dare
you say that. Are you asking for a knuckle sandwich ? Okay. Anyway, I hope you
got it. I hope you enjoyed it. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
