字幕列表 影片播放 列印英文字幕 Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Verb Phrase 147. The verb phrase today is to fart around. Okay. It is actually the word fart like somebody farts you know, fart. (farting sound) So we do use it as a verb phrase to fart around sometimes. All right. So let's look at the note here. If someone is farting around, he or she takes part in aimless recreation or wasting time by fooling around, especially the wasting time by fooling around. That's the way we often use it. It's definitely a very informal use. Let's continue here. Fart around though commonly used, is considered slang. Yeah. American slang. This is mostly in American English and could possibly be considered to be rude or offensive depending on the situation one uses it in. Yeah. I'm not too sure I'd use it in the office. Or I think it's mostly used among like some guys doing something. I don't know if I'd say it to a girl. Stop farting around it might sound weird. It is often used in a similar way that one is ... that someone is fooling around. So it really has almost nearly the same meaning and use as fooling around but sometimes people say farting around. I think actually has more humor to it though too. So if it is used it's sometimes used in a funny way. I don't know maybe when you fart you know you waste you waste energy. Waste gas. I don't know but they do use it usually kind of you know, in a funny way. So let's look at a couple of examples here. Example number one. Stop farting around with that video game. We need to get some work done. So it's very similar to the idea of stop fooling around with that video game. Or number two. Jim has been farting around all day and now we are behind schedule. So you can just as easily say Jim has been fooling around the whole day and now we are behind schedule too. Okay. Good and just a last note here . The origin of the word fart. It comes from the old Germanic language. Frata and eventually formed into fart today. Okay. Anyway, I hope you got it . I hope it was clear. I hope, I hope it was informative. Thank you for your time. Bye- bye.
