Today, I want to challenge you to a question

今天我想要挑戰你一個問題

And this is a question that we all should be asking ourselves every once in a while

這是一個我們偶爾都應該要問問自己的問題

And that question is--

這問題就是--

"What's next?"

"然後呢？"

You see when we were kids. We all imagined how school would be like.

當我們是小朋友的時候，我們都曾想像上學會是怎樣

Is it gonna be scary?

很可怕嗎？

Is it gonna be fun?

很好玩嗎？

Are we gonna make new friends?

會交新朋友嗎？

Hi, can I be your friend?

嗨，我可以當你的朋友嗎？

No, you're ugly!

不行，你好醜

And then we go through these different stages of education

接著，我們經歷一連串不同的教育階段

Kindergarten, elementary school, middle school, high school...

幼稚園、小學、中學、高中...

And high school's sort of that peak where you really want to get over with 'cos you know...

高中就有點到了那你真的很想解脫的頂點，因為你知道的...

all those tests, exams, stress...

一堆測驗、考試、壓力...

puberty...

青春期...

We've all been through that

我們都經歷過啦

But then you make it into college which is a brand new start

但接著你上了大學，是一個全新的開始

A time when you're semi-independent

一個你是半獨立狀態的時期

which you have this amazing...

你享受這美好的...

or miserable four years

或者是悲慘的四年

Either way, after college you start thinking to yourself...

無論如何，大學畢業之後，你開始思考...

"Should I go to grad school?"

「我該讀研究所嗎？」

Should I pursue higher education?

「我該繼續升學嗎？」

Or should I enter the workforce?

「還是我應該要進職場？」

Like I did

就像我一樣

Anyhow, up to this point, so far in each stage of life there has always been a next phase

總之，此時，在你過去所經歷的每一個人生階段中，總是會有下一個階段等著你

There has always been something new

總是有新的事物

There has always been a new hope

總是有新的希望

There has always been something you could look forward to

總是有可以讓你引頸期盼的事

Something that'll just come along the way and happen when the right time comes

反正時候到了就會到來、就會發生

time, time, time, time, time, time, time, time, time...

時候、時候.......

But now you're in the workforce

但是現在你出了社會

All of a sudden, there is no next phase

忽然之間，沒有下個階段了

All of a sudden there is nothing pre-plotted out for you for the remaining time of your life

忽然之間，在你人生剩下的光陰中，沒有預先為你籌劃好的事物

There is no one out there to tell you what you should do

沒有人來告訴你你該怎麼做

Before this you were just living by a blueprint that the system has drawn up for you

在此之前，你只是按照這個大系統為你畫下的藍圖在前進

And now you have to start thinking for yourself

而此刻你必須要開始為自己打算

And that's something that we weren't trained for

囧的是.. 我們沒有受過這方面的訓練..

So what's next?

所以.. 然後呢？

When I was in college, my dad would often compare me to my (bleep)

我讀大學的時候，我老爸常會拿我跟我的 (嗶) 比較

And my (bleep), they were super duper smart

我的 (嗶) 都超級無敵聰明的

They were brilliant students going to top universities

他們都是上著頂尖學校的優秀學生

Their futures were promising!

他們的前途指日可待！

Everything that I was not!

完全是我的相反！

So I hated being compared to them

所以，我總是很討厭被拿來跟他們比較

And so I would always talk back to my dad in a rebellious tone saying like...

所以我總是會用很叛逆的語氣跟我老爸頂嘴，說...

So?? They're going to a top university

所以咧？他們讀好大學...

They're probably gonna end up working at (bleep)

八成以後會在 (嗶) 工作...

Best in the industry!

產業界中最好的公司！

A couple years from now, they're probably gonna get married to their nice girlfriends

幾年之後，他們八成會跟他們那超讚的女朋友們結婚

And then a couple years later they're gonna have kids, a family

再幾年之後，他們會生小孩，有了家庭

They're probably gonna buy a nice house, a fancy sports car

八成會買一棟不錯的房子、一台華麗的跑車

And you know what?

還有，你知道嗎？

To pay off the mortgage, they're gonna have to work even harder.

為了還清貸款，他們得要更努力工作

So? Tell me, what's next?

所以咧？告訴我... 然後咧？

I would always get my dad at that point

我總是會考倒我老爸

And my dad would say back to me in a gentle tone saying, ...

我老爸就會用很溫和的口吻跟我說...

"You know son, that's just the way life is."

「兒子，這就是人生啊...」

And I would say,...

我就會說...

"Well no, that is not the way I want my life to be."

「不，我不想要我的人生是這樣...」

By the way, my (bleep), they have great lives

順帶一提，我的 (嗶) 他們擁有很棒的人生啦！

It's just not for me

只是說不適合我而已啦

Fast forward several years later to now. Now I'm in the workforce.

快轉個幾年到現在，現在我進入職場了

I wouldn't say everything worked out for me all that well, but...

我不敢說我一切都很順遂，但是...

you know, life is good,...

你知道的... 人生是美好的

life is OK

生活挺OK的...

Life has been treating me fair enough

老天爺待我不薄

I'm getting by

我還過得去

But more recently...

但是最近...

that same old question that I've been asking my dad has been slapping me right back in the face like...

過去那我常拿來問我老爸的老問題.. 完全打臉我... 就像...

So...?

所以咧？

What is next?

究竟然後咧？

You're a YouTuber!

你可是YouTuber啊！

You're living the dream job

你做的是夢幻的工作啊！

You're making a dent in the universe

你正在改變這個世界啊！

You have 500k subs

你有50萬訂閱！

"What's next?"

There is definitely a lot I could do to improve with my career

當然，在事業方面絕對有許多可以改進的地方

But what's after 500k

但是在50萬訂閱之後呢？

What's after 1 million subs?

一百萬訂閱之後呢？

What's after I get the golden plate?

拿到YouTube黃金獎牌之後呢？

If I ever do get it

如果有朝一日拿得到的話...

What's after I cut more deals?

我在敲定更多商案之後呢？

What's after I reach out to more people?

我影響了更多人之後呢？

What's after I finish writing this book?

我寫完這本書之後呢？

But this time no one has it thought-out for you

而我敢打賭你們當中有很多人正搥著胸口...

He gets me... He gets me...

他懂我... 他懂我...

No matter how good life is...

不管生活有多麽美好...

or bad...

或糟糕...

There is nothing more terrifying than the thought of staying stuck at where you are right now

再也沒有比原地踏步更可怕的事了

'Cos people are meant to make progress

因為人類生來就是為了進步的

People are meant to live raising levels

人生來就是為了要提升層次而過生活的

People are meant to embrace new hope

人生來就是為了要擁抱新希望

And without that life is kind of scary

少了這一切，人生似乎有點令人害怕

Not that I'm trying to scare you, but I'm challenging you.

我不是要嚇你，但我要挑戰你...

I'm challenging us to think deeper, to think one step ahead

我挑戰"我們"要更深入地思考，更未雨綢繆地思想

What's next?

"然後呢？"

Even if you have the most crystal-clear purpose, goal, vision...

就算你有再清楚的目的、目標、願景...

that doesn't mean you don't feel lost sometimes

不代表你就不會感到迷惘

Sometimes we get lost halfway

有時候我們半路上會迷路

Sometimes we feel lost halfway

有時候半途中會感到失去方向

But it's these moments and the decisions we make that make who we are to become

但就是這些時刻，以及我們在當下所做的決定，決定了將來我們要成為的那個人

And the moment you stop questioning yourself...

在你停止自我反思的時刻...

the moment you settle with reality...

在你跟現實妥協的時刻...

the moment you stop making progress...

就是你停止進步的時刻...

the moment you stop raising your level in life

就是你在生活中停止提升層次的時刻

In the words of Ronald Reagan...

套句老雷根總統的話...

"There are no constraints on the human mind"

「人的內心是沒有限制的」

"no walls around the human spirit"

「人的靈魂是沒有高牆圍繞的」

"no barriers to our progress"

「在進步面前是沒有阻礙的」

"except those we ourselves erect."

「除了那些我們自己樹立的障礙。」

The mind is a driving force

內心是一道驅動力

And so starting today, ask yourself...

因此，從今天開始，請問自己...

"What's next?"

"然後呢？"

And that is my challenge to you for a better future

這就是我今天給你的挑戰，為了一個更好的未來
