  • Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Idioms 225. The idiom today is to go in

  • one ear and out the other. Okay. So let's take a look at the note

  • here. If something goes in one ear and out the other,

  • something is heard and soon after ignored or forgotten. Yeah. So we usually

  • use it kind of in a humorous way and a funny way meaning that you're telling

  • somebody they're kind of acknowledging it as you're telling it, but right after

  • either they forget it . They really forget it or they just ignore you. So that's

  • what we mean by something goes in one ear and out the other. So let's look at

  • some examples here. Example number one. Every time I try to explain the

  • importance of doing his homework it goes in one ear and out the other.

  • My son says okay , but he still doesn't do it. Okay. That's a perfect example or

  • number two here. If it is not the election season and you complain to your

  • local politician, it just goes in one ear and out the other. Yeah. A lot of people

  • will say that if it's election season they'll probably at least pretend like

  • they're listening to you. But if it's not election season they, they don't need

  • your vote right now. So whatever you say to them goes in one ear and out the

  • other. Anyway I hope you got it. I hope it was

  • clear. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
