often get students they'll actually say this. Or you know, it could be any

language, but let's , let's use the example here. So again with the X this is wrong.

So if somebody says do you hear Chinese ? Of course what they mean is do you

understand Chinese ? With the check or do you speak Chinese ? If you say do you hear

Chinese, I mean of course I really unless you're deaf, you definitely hear the

language. That does not mean that you understand it. You could hear the words

being spoken, but really what they mean to say is do you understand Chinese ? Can

you speak Chinese ? Are you fluent in Chinese ? There's a lot of ways they could

say that but sometimes they'll say hear. And hear really doesn't make any sense

here. Like I said unless you're deaf, you

definitely hear it . But hearing does not equal understanding. So let's go

on. Let's look at the second one. And somebody might say, I can hear Russian.

Now of course that would be a mistake. I can understand Russian.

I can speak Russian, or I am fluent in Russian. There's a lot of things that
