Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Proverbs 80. The proverb today is you can't
teach an old dog new tricks. Okay. I've heard this one many times before.
Let's take a look at the note here. This proverb basically means it is very
difficult to change one's habits or ways or teach them new skills, especially if
they are older and set in their ways. Okay. and especially a lot of older people or
senior citizen people are often set in their ways and sometimes it's more
difficult to teach them new things. Okay. So let's continue. Of course, there are some
exceptions to this rule. Although harder, it's not impossible for
an old one to learn new tricks. And in the same way it's not impossible for an
older or senior citizen person to lose, to learn some new high-tech skills. It's
not impossible. No. It's probably more in the attitude whether you are referring
to dogs or people. Yeah. So just like you know, some dogs may have a bad attitude
sometimes some older senior citizen people may have a bad attitude about
this or or not really just to be too uncomfortable to try it. Older people
tend to be more stubborn or set in their ways and are less enthusiastic
about change. That's kind of what that means by that.
Okay. Let's continue. They say this proverb has been around since 1534, when it
appeared in Fitz Herbert's "Book of Husbandry. " And of course, remember
husbandry that was the old word that we often used to use for farming and caring
for animals. Yeah you're surprised how many old books like you know, in the Middle
Ages and Industrial Revolution used to be on husbandry. All right. Anyway, let's
continue. We have two examples here. You'll never be able to teach Grandpa to
rap. You know, like sing rap music. You just can't teach an old dog new
tricks. Of course you know, maybe he's just not into it too. Or number two. It is
very difficult to teach your grandparents high-tech computer skills. Sometimes,
sometimes you just can't teach old dogs new tricks. Okay anyway, I hope you got it.
I hope it's clear. Thank you for your time bye bye
