  • Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Proverbs 102.

  • The Proverb today is " Don't Cast Pearls Before Swine.

  • " All right. Remember cast.

  • Cast means throw.

  • Pearls are very valuable.

  • They come from clams valuable.

  • Before swine, swine is another name for pigs.

  • Basically.

  • All right.

  • Let's take a look at the note here.

  • If someone casts pearls before swine, it means you present or give something very valuable

  • to someone who does not recognize its value.

  • Okay.

  • Let's continue.

  • This proverb actually comes from the Bible originally.

  • The Biblical text, is basically a warning by Jesus to his followers, they should not

  • preach the Biblical doctrine to those who are not able to appreciate it.

  • Okay.

  • So of course, the Biblical doctrine, he thinks is very valuable.

  • Don't preach it to them because they just can't relate to it.

  • They just can't understand it.

  • All right.

  • Here is the actual quote from the Bible.

  • "Do not give what is holy to the dogs nor cast your pearls before swine., lest they

  • trample on them."

  • Like if they stepped on them.

  • Like if you threw your pearls before swine they might just step on them and they might

  • ruin them.

  • " Destroy them under their feet and turn and tear you in pieces.

  • " So you are wasting your time with that.

  • Okay.

  • And here is an example.

  • Because to be honest, most of the time when we hear this it is not usually used in a religious

  • way.

  • It is usually used for other things .It just simply means don't give someone something,

  • they don't understand the value of it.

  • So it doesn't have to have anything to do with religion or Bible or anything like that.

  • So here is example number one.

  • Do not leave all those valuables antiques to your brother.

  • He doesn't understand or know the value of them.

  • The true value of them.

  • He probably would just toss them in the garbage.

  • He just might toss them out.

  • Leaving them to him is like casting pearls before swine.

  • Okay.

  • Anyway, I hope you got it.

  • I hope it is clear.

  • Thank you for you time.

  • Bye-bye.
