  • How do I become a YouTuber?

  • How do I make videos?

  • What should I talk about on my channel?

  • What...

  • Wait, I'm just gonna stop you right there

  • I am NOT gonna answer another of your questions on YouTube

  • And before you get all mad about it

  • Hear me out. There are several reasons why.

  • First of all, I'm not a smashing-it YouTuber myself

  • I'm still climbing up the ladders, kind of halfway there

  • So I don't kind of feel like in the right place to give you advice on this

  • Even if I am

  • I am extremely busy

  • As you can tell from the dark circles.

  • They're just getting darker and darker every single day

  • But that I'll put aside the main reason why I am NOT gonna talk about making videos to anyone

  • anymore is simply because I've done it so many times already

  • Sitting down with people over dinner, replying personal messages, getting back to email

  • getting into detail on how to set up your channel...

  • choose your microphone, camera, your lighting settings, how to set the composition, etc, etc

  • I've done it so many times

  • And it's not that I mind spending my time on this

  • Actually I love sharing. I love talking about this.

  • What bothers me is like out of the 10 or 20 people that I've got back to on these questions...

  • On the top of my head, like only one person actually started his own channel

  • So for the 9 rest or the 19 rest that haven't

  • Guys, what a waste of my time, honestly

  • So if you want to start a channel, start a channel.

  • Quit asking. Get down to it.

  • Just Do It !

  • Wait, that sounds advertising

  • Impossible is nothing.

  • So just...

  • Do it

  • Couldn't think of another phrase to phrase it.

  • I love working with doers. They turn ideas into entities.

  • They walk the walk. They're go-getters

  • They're always on the go

  • I like sharing with these guys and girls

  • Cuz you know they're gonna turn this conversation that we're having now into something real before the next time we meet

  • And that makes you excited

  • I like to think of my college martial arts coach.

  • Yeah, I've learned a little bit of Kung fu myself

  • He's this really cool and straight guy with a ponytail looks like ancient Chinese

  • Whenever he's here at practice

  • he teaches us the basics and then he makes his practice for hours

  • Whenever I ask him a question, he asks me back

  • Have you practiced a hundred times yet?

  • Uh.. No, coach

  • Then come back when you've done so

  • He never gives us easy answers

  • He always makes us find out on our own

  • His philosophy is simple.

  • He'll tell you the basics

  • But you got to do the work yourself

  • He makes you practice repeatedly countless times

  • And a lot of times, along the way you just figure it out yourself

  • And even if you don't

  • after so much practice, he's like...

  • So you've done it a hundred times?

  • Yes, coach

  • Show me

  • And he goes like

  • That's your problem.

  • You're exposing your head to your enemy

  • So tell me what are you gonna do about it now

  • That's right

  • Just without the Bruce Lee sounds

  • After all that practice, he gives you this tiny little tip that makes you all of a sudden realize what you've been missing out all along

  • And if it weren't for all that practice, we wouldn't have understood the significance and the difference of these tiny little details

  • Coach never gave us easy answers

  • He made us earn them so that we would never forget

  • And the same is with everything

  • Today's video is not talking about being or not being a YouTuber

  • It's about taking action, putting things into practice

  • You can only take away as much effort you put into it

  • If you sit down with me, we talk about how to set up your camera, your lightings, the composition, how to make your thumbnail stand out, etc.

  • You wouldn't understand to the fullest 'cos you haven't got your hands on it yourself yet

  • If I gave you an amount of ten, you'd probably take away like four or five or even less

  • The more you've done it yourself, the more you'd understand

  • And I guess that's probably why MBA programs in the States require that you have a three to five year work experience before you apply

  • So now when somebody asks me advice on how to start a channel I simply give them the basics

  • Go get a Googla account. It's tied in with your YouTube account

  • Go to youtube settings and click on "create a new channel"

  • Just follow the steps. It's easy

  • Voila! Simple!

  • Change your profile, your photo, your banner, and the next thing...

  • Make five videos before the next time we meet

  • Ciao

  • Bye

  • Go!

  • It's the same with everything

  • You got to do your own bit

  • You got to put in your effort before you start to really learn something

  • Peace
