Today we're also going to take a look at 5 Chinglish sentences.

今天我們也是要來看五句中式英文

First, I'll have Lil Ray show you the example. While he speaks,

那首先我會先請小瑞出來示範，在他示範的時候

you can try to figure out what's wrong and how it can be fixed.

大家可以趁機想一想，這句話錯在哪裡、該怎麼樣改

After the demonstration,

I'll explain why the sentence is wrong and how to correct it.

我就會出來跟大家解釋這一句話為什麼錯，以及該怎麼修正！

I eat already, I come already, I do already

I eat already, I come already, I do already

I think everyone knows what "already" means in Chinese, right?

大家應該知道這裡的 “already” 中文是什麼意思吧？

it's "已經". "I eat already" is the literal translation from Chinese.

就是「已經」，這就是「我已經吃了」的中文直譯

If that's the case, it should be "I already eat".

那如果是這樣(完全)直譯的話應該是，“I already eat”

But the most common one I heard is "I eat already".

不過比較常聽到的是 “I eat already” 的這個錯誤

They are both incorrect.

那這兩個都是錯的喔

The problem is the tense of the verb "eat".

問題是在於 eat 這個動詞的時態

If you want to express "having done something" in English,

在英文如果你想要表達「已經做到的話」

you should use "perfect tense".

就需要用英文的「完成式」

If you want to learn more about perfect tense,

那對於完成式如果有興趣的話，想要了解更多

So how to turn this sentence into perfect tense?

所以這一句話改成完成式要怎麼改呢？

It should be "I have eaten", "I've eaten"

應該是 “I have eaten”, “I’ve eaten”

Past tense is also okay for this sentence,

那這句話用過去式也可以

but you need to add the "already" to express the concept of "having done".

不過需要 “already” 來去加上「已經」的概念

You can either put the "already" in the middle of the sentence or at the end.

那 ”already” 這個副詞放在句中或是句尾都可以

So you can say "I already ate" or "I ate already".

所以你可以說 “I already ate” 或者是 “I ate already”

No why, no why, don't ask.

No why, no why, don’t ask.

Zero why

"No why" is also a super direct literal translation of "沒有為什麼".

“No why” 也是一個超直接的硬翻「沒有為什麼」

Maybe when you did something stupid and others started to question your IQ.

可能是因為你做了某件蠢事之後開始有人質疑你的智商

"Why?"

"Why?”

And you didn't have any excuses, so you would say "沒有為什麼".

然後你也沒有什麼藉口所以只好說「沒有為什麼」

In that case, you should say "No reason".

這樣的話你應該要說 “No reason”「沒有理由」

That's the correct way instead.

才會是正確的英文喔

But if someone asked you "Why?"

不過如果有人問你 “Why?” 的話

here is the better response, you can say

提供給你一個更好的回答方式，你就回他

"Why not?"

"Why not?”

You'll get beaten up right away, but it's worth it.

絕對現場被痛毆，不過很值得

Most of the mistakes we talk about today are due to literal translation.

今天的錯誤幾乎都是直接翻譯的問題喔

What's being translated into "This give you"? It's from "這給你".

“This give you” 就是什麼的翻譯，「這給你」嘛

That's not okay. Nono~

這是不行的喔，nono~

The fans who paid attention to my videos should know

what to say when giving stuffs to others, right?

給人東西的時候英文要說什麼吧！

Alright, when you give something to others you can say "Here you go".

好，給人東西的話可以說 “Here you go”

The rain is big outside!

The rain is big outside!

Oh! So many rain.

Oh! So many rain

How to say when it's pouring out there? Never say "The rain is big" like Lil Ray did.

外面雨很大要怎麼說，絕對不要學小瑞說 ”The rain is big”

Also, rain is non-plural, so you can't say "many rain".

而且 rain 是不可數的，所以也不能說 “many rain”

"Heavy" is often used in this situation.

形容雨很大，通常會搭配 “heavy” 這一個字

Such as "heavy rain" or "it's raining heavily".

"heavy rain” 或者是 "it’s raining heavily” 等等

Another common way to say it is "it's pouring".

還有另外一個很常聽到的用法是 “it’s pouring”

It's like the rain is so heavy as the water pouring out from the bucket.

就是像從一個水桶裡面倒出來水這樣子的傾盆大雨

Now I want to talk about an interesting phenomenon.

最後我想要講一個我個人覺得蠻有趣的現象

That is, if you've learned English in Taiwan,

就是你只要是在台灣學過英文的人

you must have heard of the idiom "it's raining cats and dogs", right?

就一定會聽過，“it’s raining cats and dogs” 的這個諺語對吧

And there are people who use this idiom to describe heavy rain.

而且有人可能會直接這樣子使用

Ok, there is nothing wrong about it.

Ok 這個諺語是正確的

But I've rarely actually heard of any native speakers who use it.

不過我很少聽到外國人真的直接使用它

I think it might be like

我猜他的感覺有點像是

saying

你中文硬是要講

"The rain is torrential out there."

「外面大雨滂沱」

It's kind of weird.

就是有一點怪怪的

We didn't look up

這個成語的

for the pronunciation

發音

of the idiom, so I'm not sure if I said it right.

我們沒有去查，我不太確定有沒有唸對

I have to write homework. I hate all my teachers.

I have to write homework. I hate all my teachers

Last one, for those who are still students.

最後一個，還在學校學習的各位學生們

"寫功課" is definitely not "write homework"

「寫功課」絕對不是 write homework

or "make homework"!

也更不是「做功課」make homework!

There are two English verbs you can use: "do" or "finish".

寫功課的話，英文的動詞可以用兩個字： do 或者是 finish

So you can say "I have to do my homework".

所以你可以說 I have to do my homework

or "I have to finish my homework".

或者是 I have to finish my homework
