  • why is the Lesser East Gate next to the Lesser West Gate?

  • The Lesser East Gate has been here all of history

    其實這裡本來只有小東門

  • and the Lesser West Gate was moved here in 1968

    在1968年 小西門(府前路與西門路交叉口)才搬到這裡

  • due to urban planning.

  • And right now the two gates stand peacefully next to each other,

  • forming this interesting juxtaposition.

  • Today we're going to walk through the East District of Tainan.

  • It is one of the most liberal, educational,

  • This place is full of history

  • is that each room is a different exhibition.

  • So when walking into the different exhibitions,

  • the space race of the Soviet Union with the United States

  • and a lot of their developments through this time.

  • This is a very Baroque styled building

  • with a nicely-organized garden.

  • It was built during the Japanese colonization,

  • and used to be

  • the residence of the Japanese Magistrate who ruled Tainan City.

  • The Old Tainan Magistrate Residence was built in 1900.

    建於1900年的臺南知事官邸

  • It was the residence for Chiji,

    顧名思義 就是日治時代

  • the local governor, of Tainan Prefecture during Japanese Rule.

    臺南縣知事(即縣長)的住所

  • When Japanese Imperial Family members came to visit,

  • it served as the main residence as well.

  • In 1923,

  • Prince Hirohito, who was later Emperor Showa,

  • has stayed a night here.

  • After World War II,

  • the building served as several government offices.

  • It was designated as a municipal historic site in 1998.

  • I started before I was married.

  • Since I was only a teenager. I stopped after I got married.

  • How much time does it take to finish this?

    這(作品)大概花多久時間

  • My part takes approximately half a month.

    我的部分差不多半個月

  • Half a month.

  • So it's about making the cloth more 3D

    就是讓它(作品)變得更立體

  • and more vibrant in colors?

    然後色彩更鮮明嗎

  • After my talk with the craftsmen here,

    跟師父們對話後

  • I learned that her part of the work

    我了解到她負責的部分

  • takes around half a month to complete.

    需要大約半個月來完成

  • And before her part,

  • actually someone else does all the design and coloring.

  • And she makes them more 3-D

  • so like they're popping out to you.

  • And they're both very modest craftsmen,

  • and I truly do hope that this art of embroidery

  • can continue to live and survive.

  • deersare the main theme of this underground passageway,

  • more specifically, Formosa Sika Deers.

  • The reason is that these deers used to be

  • of great importance to the Shilaya Aboriginal Tribe,

  • who resided in Old Tainan City

  • and they also existed in great abundance in this area.

  • After walking out from our shortcut,

  • you can really feel the hustle bustle of this city.

  • I don't like it fast.

  • Everything is powa-powa-powa.

  • But here it's like more relax

  • and they're not so up and about.

  • And I'm a vegetarian

  • and Tainan is a vegetarian heaven.

  • You can't find as many vegetarian restaurants

    全臺灣的素食餐廳

  • in all over Taiwan than in Tainan.

    加起來都沒有臺南多

  • Even in small places,

    就算是在小鎮內

  • if you go to Yong Kang somewhere

  • there's tons of vegetarian restaurants.

    也有非常多家素食餐廳

  • And I love it!

    我太愛這裡了

  • That's awesome and delicious!

    超級棒又很好吃

  • My main objective is to make people happy

    我的目標就是讓人們開心

  • and when they're happy, I'm happy,

    當他們開心時 我也開心

  • so I'm in a happy place all the time.

    所以我可以一直保持在開心的狀態

  • And really, I meet a lot of interesting people,
