  • Hey naturals, what's up Gabby Wallace here your American English teacher here to help you become fluent in English

  • Now there's something that makes me really upset and that's when you learn good English, but

  • Good is the enemy of great let me explain in your English class?

  • Your teacher your textbook your traditional English class is teaching you good English

  • It's probably academic English you're probably learning a lot of grammar and vocabulary lists, and you're learning good English

  • You're learning correct English, but what really makes me sad is to see you go out into the real world and not

  • understand other people speaking English so having great English means that you're able to

  • understand everyone who speaks English and

  • actually

  • Interact with them to speak so that they understand you so if you want to be able to communicate

  • naturally in English, that's why it's called go natural English because

  • Natural communication is what we do in everyday life not in a textbook

  • I want you to know that I wrote an e-book for you with my best strategies techniques

  • Practice examples all that good stuff

  • It's called the English fluency formula

  • And I wanted to show it to you here mostly because I want to show off my nails that I just got done

  • No, but really. This is a good ebook a good resource for you that I want you to be aware of okay

  • So I'm gonna share five things with you that

  • Native English speakers say that you probably never learn in your traditional English class

  • so I'm gonna share how to

  • translate your traditional English lesson

  • Phrases into real-life natural English, so here. We go. Are you ready? Can I share these? Yeah, okay? Let's go

  • number one

  • Why this is traditional English first and then natural English second? Why?

  • Translated into natural English is how come so?

  • Yes, native english-speakers say why we ask questions with why why is the sky blue, but native?

  • english-speakers will actually also

  • Often ask how come how come the sky is blue, and they're equally

  • common

  • number two please repeat

  • This is a little bit

  • Stilted in my opinion although some native speakers would use this. It's correct

  • It's fine, but instead of please repeat a lot of native English speakers will ask

  • Come again

  • so instead of asking someone to repeat what they said we simply say come again or

  • Sorry

  • So that's a way, you can ask someone to repeat themselves come again

  • Number three number three, are you finished are you finished is?

  • Fine but an even more native way to say this is and this is very very common

  • And I see a lot of even advanced English learners who?

  • Get tripped up or in other words don't understand when people say this is are you all set?

  • or simply Y all set

  • Or all set all set means are you finished and you might hear this at a store?

  • if you're at the checkout counter or maybe if you are at work and your

  • Coworker or your boss wants to know are you finished with this work. Are you all set with this work?

  • So this is a really important phrase number. Three is super super useful

  • number four

  • Instead of saying to go to a place which is perfectly fine

  • It's correct and good to say to go to

  • Let's add a phrase that we can use in the same way

  • To stop by so I just texted my friend

  • And I said is it okay if I stop by your house at 6 p.m.

  • Are you going to be home so this means to go to or to visit?

  • But we can use it

  • Instead of those to stop by my friend's house to stop by the store to stop by work

  • It means a quick visit to go to

  • Briefly not for a long time so maybe you want to stop by a party

  • You don't want to stay too late or too long, but you want to stop be social show your face

  • This is a good way to use to stop by finally number five

  • the verb to

  • Meet can give us a lot of confusion because we use it in a lot of different ways to me can mean

  • to

  • see someone it can mean to

  • To actually be introduced to someone for the first time it can mean two pieces that come together in

  • the idiom to make ends meet

  • Which means that you're earning enough money to pay your bills?

  • We're learning a lot in this lesson our tree a lot of idioms and a lot of new phrases so to meet is

  • often actually

  • replaced with to meet up by native speakers to

  • distinguish between different ways of

  • Using the verb means and so over time it evolved that a lot of native English speakers will say to meet up to

  • Say, you know to see each other not for the first time but to meet up or to get together so to get

  • Together is often used to make plans hey

  • Do you want to meet up this weekend you want to meet up after work?

  • Or do you want to get together after work? So these are really common?

  • Natural ways of adapting your english to a more natural way of speaking

  • So please try these phrases out. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments

  • I would love to hear from you to know what you think of this lesson if you liked it

  • Give it a like leave a comment

  • I don't know what this was was this a like or a Hank 10, but anyway give the lesson something. I don't know anyway

  • Let me know what you think and yes if you're interested in

  • The e-book or if you want to know more about where I get my nails done

  • I can tell you that as well when you get the e-book

  • We'll be in touch by email if you click right over there, actually you can ask in the comments about my nails

  • I'm really really happy about how my nails look anyway

  • Thank you guys for watching
