Death is a sad, yet inevitable part of life.

At some point, you will die and there is some weird, kinda creepy stuff that starts to happen to your body.

在某個情況下，在你死後你的身體會有一些奇怪和令人毛骨悚然的事情發生

First off, after you die, your body will start to get cold.

首先，在你死後你的身體會開始慢慢變冷

In fact, every hour after you die, your body will get about 0.8 degrees Celsius cooler

事實上，在你死後你的身體每小時會降溫攝氏 0.8 度

until it reaches room temperature.

直到降到常溫為止

And meanwhile, your cells will start dying from a lack of oxygen,

同時你的細胞會因為缺氧而持續死亡

since ya know, your lungs are no longer working and your heart has stopped beating.

But this lack of oxygen won't kill them right away...instead, they will live for several minutes.

And during this time, there are still chemical reaction occurring that produce carbon dioxide

and increase the acidity of the cell.

Enzymes in the cells then start to digest the cell membrane, causing the cell to break down and start leaking.

身體的酶會開始消化細胞膜，造成細胞開始分解流失

And the enzymes that escape can go on and break down the other cells around it.

其餘的酶也會開始侵蝕周圍的細胞

Creepy, huh?

很令人毛骨悚然對吧？

And fun fact: when your muscles relax after you die, it may lead to you peeing or defecating if you hadn't used the bathroom in a while.

有趣的事實：如果你已經有好一會兒沒有上廁所的話，在你死亡肌肉會開始放鬆，這會讓你不自主地大小便

Anyway Later on, blood starts to spill out from broken blood vessels

and since it isn't flowing around your body, you will start to look pale.

Now, if you are lying down, as you probably will be, the blood will begin to travel down thanks to gravity,

and will be settle in the lowest regions along your back side.

And this will eventually lead to discoloration.

About two to six hours after death, rigor mortis kicks in.

When you are living, you are able to contract and relax your muscles at will.

But with rigor mortis, after your cells have used up the last of their energy supply,

the protein filaments allowing your muscles to move become locked in place,

which is why dead bodies are so stiff.

And this stiffness usually lasts for about three days.

A few days after death, putrefaction begins as the bacteria in your gastrointestinal tract will start to break down tissues and cells,

liquefying your body and producing horrific-smelling gases like methane and hydrogen sulfide.

And with the production of gas comes the bloating of your belly.

The gas pressure causes any liquids in cells and blood vessels to spill out,

which may eventually start to leak out of your body.

And sometimes the pressure is so great that the abdomen bursts open,

which is definitely an image that will haunt my dreams forever.

And since your body is smelly, it will attract blowflies that will lay eggs in your rotting flesh,

leading to the birth of maggots within a day.

These maggots feed on your flesh, attracting beetles and other insects.

蛆會侵蝕你的身體，這會引來甲蟲或其他昆蟲

Boy this is a beautiful episode!

20 to 50 days after death, a process called butyric fermentation begins as the flesh is removed and your body dries out.

在你死後的 20 至 50 天，待屍體被侵蝕完，身體會開始變乾，這稱為丁酸發酵

And the parts of the body touching the ground start to develop mold.

屍體碰到土地的部分會開始發霉

Then, over the course of years, all your flesh has been decomposed and eaten by various insects and animals

and all that is left of you is your skeleton.

到時屍體將只會剩下骨骸

So it's not a pretty process at all and it sure doesn't smell nice,

這整個過程並不雅觀當然也不好聞

but it sure makes me happy that most of the time someone dies, their body is quickly disposed of

但我還蠻高興的是多數人死後有人會馬上處置

so no one has to witness all of that.

所以並沒有人會看到整個腐化的過程

But hey, at least the science is interesting, right?

但至少科學蠻有趣的，對吧？
