I actually started working in the medical office with my mom when I was
like 13 so I was definitely in the medical field by that point I was just
like you know kind of making copies and then from that point up I got older I
was at the front desk and then I would work with the doctors so I I knew I wanted to
do something in the medical field
Doing research and with Dr. Sherman and
volunteering in a vision therapy clinic for three years I kind of saw that the
different specialties that optometry had and I didn't have to sit there and do one or two for the rest of my life
Miss Jennifer Crossdale
What I didn't know when I started optometry school was the fact that we are actually able to
diagnose systemic diseases that I had absolutely no idea about and that
was another thing that kind of really made me love the field that much more
In my first year it was definitely a very big transition from undergrad to a grad school
The studying was very different for me
I was so used to the kind of last minute night before and that didn't work here
The workload is difficult but it was very manageable
I was able to kind of still have my social life which was important for me
I've met great people along the way
I'm very close with a few of them and I know that after graduation we're still going to keep in touch
I think the fact that SUNY is a small school compared to other ones
kind of allows for that to be possible
The new equipment that we got has definitely been been a big thing here at SUNY
I've learned how to use the new technology which is great
I am from New York I was born and raised here but I never really spent much time
in the city because I always told myself oh I'll get to it i'm from here i'll go
look at the the places the touristy places and things like and I'm used
to the campus life where you come out at night from the library and it's quiet
I wouldn't hear anything and I came out and it was the lights and being in the
heart of the city it's just incredible I definitely recommend optometry for my
personal view on it and my personal experience it's been a great road it's
been tough challenging but it's definitely rewarding
