These markets are not designed for tall people
I'm here in Mumbai!
It's really pretty much my first time to India. I've been here once before on a quick business trip and
it was enough to know
I really wanted to spend some more time here, but not enough to really explore
It's everything I hoped it would be it's chaotic. It's rich. The smells are amazing here. I'm just really eager to explore
I've been here about a day and so far, It's been awesome feels very sort of British colonial
combined with like cows in the streets and
chaotic traffic and lots of guys running around with like hand trucks carrying luggage and things. I'm headed over to
Chor Bazaar, or the thief's Bazaar which I've been told by some Strange Parts fans is the place to visit
To find just about anything in this part of Mumbai
So I'm gonna go grab one of those iconic black and yellow taxis here and go see what we can see
Chor Bazaar
Yeah, I make videos yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah for YouTube
No dollar? You want $1 instead?
Okay, okay, good luck
That confused me at first, but turns out he just wanted a dollar bill, and I had one so
I'm excited I love markets so much
Selfie? Selfie? Selfie like this?
Picture?
Take a selfie together
Looks very good, very handsome! Alright
This must be the tool area of the market. I can't believe how full some of these
booths are they're just right up to where the rolling shutter closes.
Just jam-packed. You got copper? Copper wire? Yeah copper
For scrap yeah. To melt down? To melt down for scrap? Yeah yeah
I come from China. Same thing in China
These guys are all taking apart
transformers and
various hard parts of things for scrap metal
It's really hard work, but it's really good work. It's it's
Recycling for the planet, that's the right way to do it
One thing I'm finding super surprising about them by it's the sheer amount of livestock in the city centre, like we're in the middle of a
bustling market
And there's just like sheep and goats and cows wandering around like
In among you know car repair shops and restaurants and God knows what else
[hammering]
Most markets have specific sections for different products, and this one's no exception
So far we've been through the hardware section, the like stock metal section, a little bit of antiques
Looks like I'm now going into like beads. Maybe I see a bead shop in front of me
It's always a loose designation. There's always a mishmash of other things as well
But having different sections sort of helps people find stuff, otherwise. It's just way too hard to navigate the chaos
This is more of what I think of when I think of a traditional market, just about anywhere in the world. It's a
bunch of small stands, tarps overhead I have to be really careful in a lot of places like this because I get guillotined by the,
by the wires. I'm too tall or I'm often taller than the average population and so, these are pretty tall fortunately,
but I have to be really careful. I'm six foot one and I get into a lot of trouble in some markets
Hitting my head on things
Looks like to be mostly like snacks and foodstuffs dry food
But it's a mix. You know, very typical for a market like this
This is leaves for beetle nut here which is kind of a vile habit
I'm hesitant to judge, but this one pretty gross habit
Yeah, maybe maybe I'll explore that at some point in the video, but I don't really want to try it again
Everybody's happy to be on camera. I'm having a hard time believing how massive this place
Is it just goes and goes and goes and goes and I feel like I've only touched on a few sections
In particular I'd really like to see areas where they're selling electronics or phones. I haven't seen any hint of that yet
I believe it's here. I just don't know which direction to walk in, this place is just super extensive and
Holy smokes is it crazy
It's.. I just hit the main road, and it's full on
Wait a minute those hooks are through their... And that pull is through their...
Appears, I'm squarely in the antique portion of the market now, which isn't totally my thing, but there's actually some pretty cool stuff here
There's old like antique gramophones and shops selling little cameras, and some really beautiful stuff here
Yeah, if you're an antique hunter Mutton Street is the place to be. strange, strange parts
Yeah, sweet beautiful stuff
Okay, yeah their beautiful, you've got cool stuff
Oldest shop in the market
What was this like when eighty years ago? it's all antique market
Was it antiques eighty years ago? Yeah? Do you know where I would go to find people selling cell phones
mobile phones. Which cell phones?
anything
Looking for looking for lots of shops that sell old phones
Yeah, I'd like that. I'm not looking to buy. I just want to see
Cellphones, you just go straight and then left. Straight and then left. Okay. FIrst left yeah
There's some shops out there on the street. Is there a big part of the markets that is electronics? No no no
Go to city center, all new accessories. Okay. New accesoires. What about for used?
What about for used? Then you have to
come on Sunday or Friday market, they sell it on the street. Okay Sunday Friday market here on this street? Yeah on this street, same street
Okay. Tomorrow there will be no market
because our festival is then. Okay. You can come on Friday. Okay.
It's nice meeting you Musta(?)
That was pretty amazing and so many great shops filled with tools and all sorts of supplies. I really love markets
This is one of the better ones I've been to. I came away with a ton of great ideas for projects
