I am very happy you are here today.
I am hoping we can fill this room with love, and prayers,
and hope.
That's what I want right now.
[APPLAUSE]
This show is airing on Tuesday, but we're taping it on Monday.
We all woke up this morning to the news
of the horrific shooting in Las Vegas.
My heart is broken for everyone affected
by what happened there.
I mean, we were just in Las Vegas a few weeks ago.
When you think of Las Vegas, it's
a place to escape and have fun.
You never imagine anything like this could ever happen.
There is so much going on in the world right now.
People are recovering from hurricanes,
the devastation in Puerto Rico.
On top of that, something like this happens.
I don't know about you, but I feel sad.
I feel anxious.
I feel helpless.
It's very easy to lose hope, but we cannot do that.
We cannot do that.
I always say there is a lot more good in the world
than there is bad.
I continue to believe that.
[APPLAUSE]
That is what we have to focus on.
I see it everywhere.
Look in Las Vegas, and people were helping each other.
People lined up at 4:30 in the morning just to donate blood.
It is hard to do a show on a day like this.
When I wake up today, I think, how am I going to do a show?
But it's also days like this that I appreciate my job
more than ever.
Because I get to focus and shine a light on people
that do good in the world.
If you need a reminder of all the people
out there that we have shown you that do good,
here are just a few of the people who have inspired me.
It was a pretty normal shift.
I was supposed to be done at 4:00 in the morning.
In walked two firefighters.
I knew that they had had a heck of a night.
I actually made the decision to pay for their check.
Liz, you work nights, right, so that you
can stay home and care for your dad during the day.
Yes.
You paid it forward.
I would like to pay it forward to you right now,
and give you a check for $20,000.
[APPLAUSE]
Tell people what you're doing.
OK, well Ability app will be a free app or website
that will help people with disabilities
navigate public spaces.
[MUSIC PLAYING]
Hi.
Tim!
How are you?
Oh my goodness!
It's so amazing to meet you!
So great to see you!
So you're a developer?
Yes, I'm developing an app that will help people
with disabilities.
I'm very excited to hear that.
Yes.
Thank you for doing that.
Yes.
This is incredible.
Yeah?
Yeah.
[CRYING]
[LAUGHING]
I love it.
It was incredible meeting you, thank you.
Thank you.
10 million of you have seen our next guest's simple act
of kindness.
She stepped in when two people were
being screamed at on a subway, because a woman thought
they were Muslim.
[SPEAKING SPANISH]
You should never feel bad about your religion, or your race,
or your color of your skin, never.
That's who you are, and you should let that be OK.
A school bus driver was on her final route of the day
when the bus she was driving suddenly caught fire.
Amazingly, she was able to get all 20 children off of the bus
to safety.
Everybody owes you.
I mean, like you said, they're your babies.
Exactly.
How old were these kids?
From age four to 10.
Wow.
Yes, age four to 10.
The parents were just so happy, and thanking me,
and hugging me.
And I'm just like, it's my job.
They're my babies until I give them back to you.
[APPLAUSE]
After being named homecoming king at his high school
football game, our next guest decided
that his friend with cerebral palsy
was more deserving of the title.
Why did you decide to do that?
Well, I think people are getting it mixed up, thinking
that I gave him the crown because he has CP,
but in fact that's not it at all.
I don't see K.L. As a disabled person.
I see him as a great human being.
We started walking the kids home from school,
because we just saw a need that needed to be filled.
Every day, there are about 200 students
walking a mile, two miles back and forth to school.
We thought, let's ask if teachers would
volunteer to walk with them.
I want you to tell me a little bit about your book program
during the summer.
We go every week and we visit all of our babies
in their neighborhoods.
We bought you a bookmobile.
[SCREAMING]
I went to pick up my wife and daughter from the airport.
We were a little early, so we went and had something to eat.
I left my wallet on the table, and thought
I'm never going to get it back.
I'm never going to see it again.
And I get this letter from this young boy,
and he's found my wallet.
I know that you've been struggling.
You've been saving up for college.
So I wanted to give you your own wallet and $10,000.
There was an accident.
A car hit a motorcycle.
A motorcyclist was underneath the car.
All of these strangers got together, lifted the car.
This is really the most amazing thing I've ever seen.
He's alive because of all of you.
I like Ellen.
We've had nine open heart surgeries and heart surgeries
together.
Hi Tayt!
It's your girlfriend, Ellen.
[MUSIC - SIA, "BIRD SET FREE"]
Hi, Tayt!
[APPLAUSE]
I'll tell you something, Tayt.
You're my only boyfriend.
I love you.
I love you too, Tayt.
I love you.
I'm not gon' care if I sing off key.
I find myself in my melodies.
I sing for love, I sing for me.
What was the response of being on the show?
What happened after that, Chrissy?
It's--
Aw.
Come sit with me.
[SNIFFLING]
[APPLAUSE]
We service a very high-needs population.
We have a lot of homeless children here.
You help pay rent.
You help pay bills.
You get free doctors appointments.
You get the food for the families.
I want more people to know about you,
and hope that you inspire other teachers and principals
out there.
And we want to give you and Whitney Elementary
School $100,000.
Oh my gosh!
[CHEERING]
Hi, my name is Brian.
I'm 30 years old, and I was recently paralyzed.
In the weeks after Brian's injury,
I go to the Saints' last open practice.
And I see this picture of Drew Brees,
with his arm around a cardboard cut-out of me.
To see it lifted my spirits, and boosted my morale
is an understatement.
Brian and Jackson, whenever you guys get the chance,
we would love to host you down here
in New Orleans to a football game,
bring you over to the facility, have you come to a practice.
[CHEERING]
But whenever you want!
They're the kind of people we can all learn from.
They're educators from Brooklyn, New York.
And it is one of Brooklyn's most underserved communities.
No matter what is happening at home, no matter what we've gone
through, they never give up.
We've never, never done anything this big before.
We reached out to the people at Wal-Mart.
They want to give each one of you a four-year scholarship.
[SCREAMING]
[MUSIC PLAYING]
I'll shout it out like a bird set free.
[APPLAUSE]
The world is full of amazing people.
Good will always win.
Love will always win.
We will continue to shine a light
on those people on our show.
I am going to try to give you a show every single day.
What we want to do is give you an escape
from whatever is going on in your life, whatever
is going on in the world, and that is
what we're going to do today.
Today is going to be a fun day.
