It's been a while since we've done an English Corner video, 那我們今天這一集是久違的 English Corner 喔 so in a moment we'll start with the English portion of the video. Remember, if you want to watch this video with English subtitles, 記得如果要看英文字幕的話 click the YouTube "CC" button, 要點 YouTube 的 CC and if you want to watch it with dual English-Chinese subtitles, click the link below to watch it on VoiceTube! It’s been quite some time since I did a video completely in English. Last time I remember it was the video about swear words? Which was like…what? Five years ago? But anyway I’m back now. I feel like it’s necessary for us 我覺得我們應該 to put out at least one video completely in English per month 每個月至少發布一部全英文的影片 so that you guys can practice your English listening 讓你們可以練習英文聽力 or to see if you've improved. So as you can see in the title today, 所以呢,你可以從今天的標題得知, we’re talking about giving speeches. I’ve always thought highly of public speaking. And I remember back in the days in high school I attended this leadership program in the U.S. 我在美國參加了一個領袖計劃 and I experienced the best speech of my life. He was a motivational speaker who was talking about 那位講者是一位勵志演說家, how we should “map out our lives and find our passion.” Though it’s a pretty generic topic, I know, 儘管這是個很普遍的主題,我知道 but the presentation he put up is pure gold. 但他演講的技巧無懈可擊 He’s vibrant, 他很有活力, he’s thoughtful, 他很深思熟慮, he’s inspirational. 他很有啟發性 All those things. That’s why when I came back to Taiwan from the camp, I decided to join the debate club. There was no public speaking club, 那時沒有什麼公共演說社, so I thought, "Oh, 所以我想「噢, maybe in the debate club I could learn how to speak." Fast forward to three years later. I didn’t get to do much public speaking at all, I spent most of the time studying and researching for a debate, 我花了大部分的時間在為辯論研究、搜集資料, and when it’s finally my chance to speak, 並且當我好不容易有機會開口時, I always get interrupted. But I didn’t give up. In college, I signed up for a lot of public speaking courses 上了大學,我選修了很多公共演講的課 and I continued to train myself to speak. I’m always the one volunteering for reports, 我總是主動要上台報告, and I even got first place in a schoolwide English Speech Contest, 而且我甚至在校際英語演講比賽中得到了第一名, beating international students. Wait, do I sound like I’m bragging? So long story short, I’ve put a lot of work into becoming a good speaker. It’s partly the reason why I can be a good YouTuber, 我能成為一個好的 Youtuber 一部分也是因為這個, because I can express myself logically 因為我可以有邏輯地闡述我的想法 and make you care about what I have to say. I enjoy going to speeches. I have in fact went to over eighty speeches 事實上,我已經參加過八十場以上的演講 ever since the start of my YouTube career. 從我開始我的 Youtuber 職涯後算起 Some were in schools, 有些是在學校, some were in companies, 有些是在公司, some were for YouTube itself. 有些則是為了 YouTube 本身 I have to say, 我必須說 giving a good speech gives you such a great sense of achievement, 發表一場好的演講帶來的成就感之大, much more than anything else I’ve ever done. Especially when you go off the cuff 尤其是在你臨時起意 and come up with ways to interact with your audience 想到一些跟觀眾互動的方法 and make them laugh. Yeah, that’s some quality freestyling right there. And though I no longer go to a lot of speeches anymore, 並且儘管我不再參加很多演講 we have 3 videos every week, 我們仍每週發布三部影片 that’s a lot of work, you know. I still wanted to share with you 3 tips 我另外想再跟你們分享三個訣竅 that will make your speech stand out. 讓你的演講可以令人眼睛為之一亮 The Hook 「鉤子」 With this first tip, 藉由第一個訣竅, you will learn how to captivate your audience from the first minute. That’s exactly how a hook works. Instead of saying flat out, 與其平淡地說出 “I’m gonna talk about this this and that.” Try to produce a hook. Put your point behind problems people want to solve 將你要陳述的要點放在人們會想解決的問題 or answers people wish to seek. So use that as an effective hook. Make people care about the point you’re trying to make. That way people get hooked to what you have to say, 這樣一來,人們就會被你所要說的事情「勾住」 and stay attentive until you give them the takeaway. What a lot of speakers tend to forget 很多講者常常忘記的 is that they need to interact with their audience. A good speech is not like a good lecture. You are not there to spew knowledge onto the listeners. You are there to make a presentation, 你是要做一個發表, guide the thought process 引導思考的過程, and inspire questions and solutions. 並且啟發各種問題和解決方法 So throughout the speech, 所以在演講的過程中 you should plan ways to interact with your audience. It can be through polling, 可以藉由調查, you can ask a key question. It can be anything to get your audience to take a break from just listening 也可以是任何能夠讓你的觀眾們在聆聽的過程中暫喘一口氣 and interact with you. Do this and you will find your audience 做這個,你會發現你的觀眾 to be more attentive and focused. This is the secret guiding principle 當我在設計我的演講時 when I’m designing my speeches. I try to give my audience surprises. I find that things out of the ordinary 我發現那些異於平常 or not to be expected creates a comedy effect. When you poise yourself obviously to say one thing 當你擺出準備好要講某件事的姿態 but then, in the next moment, 但是卻在下一刻 turn entirely to something else. I can even quote Aristotle on this: 我甚至可以在這裡引用亞里斯多德的名言: “The secret to humor is surprise.” So next time try creating a surprise for your audience, 所以下次試著為你的觀眾製造一些驚喜, you will be pleasantly surprised. So that’s what I’ve got in store for you today. My secrets to a good speech. Hopefully you can take those up your sleeves 希望你們能夠將這些秘訣謹記在心 and use it when the time comes. Wait, are you still watching? Okay, good. Okay 很好 For those of you who want to brush up on your English presentation skills, I’ve got something else for you. It’s my new course on YOTTA! Woah! Yay! Yeah so long story short, I recently launched a YOTTA course that’s all about 我最近在 YOTTA 上面新增了課程 taking you through the preparation of an English presentation. So if you’re interested, 所以如果你有興趣的話, go ahead and click on this link to check it out 點開這個連結看看 and I’ll also put the link in the description box. The whole course is about an hour long, 整個課程大概一個小時長 so I’ll really go in depth into, like, 所以我會講得很深入,像是 the principles, the tips, 演講的原則、訣竅, and actual things you can say in a presentation. 還有你可以在實際在演講中講到的東西 All that good stuff. It’s great, it’s nice, it’s fantastic, it’s huge. I don't know what else I can say about it. Just go check it out. Yeah, so the reason I finally made another English Corner 對,所以我之所以會做新的 English Corner 單元 is to sell my own product. If you liked the video, please give it a like 喜歡這個影片的話請幫我按個讚 and share it with classmates that you think would benefit from these tips! Remember that I put out new videos every Monday and Thursday 記得我們每個禮拜晚上一、四的九點 at 9:00 pm! Thanks for watching as always, 謝謝收看 and I’ll catch you guys next time.
