Is clear pronunciation important when you're speaking English?

Yes, of course it is!

當然重要！

But so is stress and intonation, so is using tone and body language to express your emotions, and so is pause to create suspense or add emphasis.

不過重音跟語調也重要，透過語氣和肢體語言表達情緒也重要；利用停頓來製造懸念或強調語勢一樣重要。

It's not just what you say but how you say it in English.

英語重要的不是你說了什麼，而是你如何表達。

With the imitation technique you'll learn how to perform English.

透過模仿法你可以學會如何表現英語。

It's like an actor in the movies or a pop star singing on stage.

就像電影裡的演員或是台上演唱的明星。

In this imitation lesson, you'll hear me telling you a story.

在這個模仿課程中，我會告訴你一個故事。

Listen to the tone and the intonation in my voice while I'm speaking.

注意聽我說話時聲音的語氣跟語調。

You'll hear that I'm being supportive and I'm encouraging a friend to do something.

你會聽出我正在支持並鼓勵一位朋友去做某件事。

Here's how it works, you'll hear the same story three times.

我們這樣進行，一樣的故事你會聽三次。

The first time you hear it, you'll just need to listen and read.

第一次，你只需要聽跟讀。

Listen to the topic, the vocabulary and my expression.

仔細聽題目、詞彙還有我的表情。

You're learning the script.

這會讓你理解腳本。

Then, you'll hear the same script again but this time there will be a short pause after each clause or sentence.

接著，你會再次聽到一樣的腳本，不過這次在每個分句或句子後面會短暫的暫停。

This is so that you can say it aloud, exactly as it was said in the recording.

這是要讓你能夠大聲的說出來，要完全照著錄音所說。

I want you to imitate me, to copy me, the native English speaker.

我要你模仿我，抄襲母語為英語的我。

The last step is the most challenging one.

最後一個步驟最具挑戰性。

Try to shadow me while I'm speaking!

試著在我說話時一起跟讀！

Perform each sentence, with the same expression and intonation, while I'm speaking.

每個句子都跟我用相同的表情跟腔調，同時跟讀。

If you don't shadow me perfectly, don't worry! It's meant to be a challenge.

就算沒有辦法跟我完全同步也不必擔心，這本來就是一項挑戰

But this step is really important, it helps you to practice all of these skills in a different way.

Great! Now you're ready to imitate the speaker.

Listen to the speaker and in the pause, repeat what they said exactly as they said it.
