  • without a visit to the National Mall.

  • And toady we're going to walk from the capitol

  • all the way down to the Lincoln Memorial.

  • On our walk we're visiting dozens of famous

  • buildings, and monuments, and memorials.

  • And our expert is sharing the significance about each one.

  • Beautiful.

  • ^- So this is the Smithsonian Castle in back of us.

  • ^It was designed by James Renwick,

  • ^and erected in 1855

  • to house most of the major collections of the

  • Smithsonian Institution when it was just getting started.

  • - Oh cool, there's the Washington Monument.

  • - The people who put up the Washington Monument

  • wanted to demonstrate a sort of ideology of the man

  • rather than draw our attention to the man himself.

  • ^- We are headed into the Lincoln Memorial.

  • ^I feel so small.

  • ^This space is huge!

  • This is amazing.

  • So cool, he's larger than life.

  • It's just amazing to see this sculpture

  • carved out of marble.

  • It's incredible.

  • - Every person who comes on this tour

  • will walk away with a more solid understanding

  • of how the National Mall fits into the larger fabric

  • of the city of Washington, D.C.

  • All sorts of old and new places that bring us back

  • to understanding the sort of national American experience.
