The first lesson in unit one covers our basic number properties. In this lesson, we are
going to cover the associative property, the commutative property, and the distributive
property. The associative property states; For all real numbers a, b, & c: (a + b) +
c = a + (b + c) and (ab)c = a(bc). The associative property refers to the manner in which numbers
are grouped, or associated, and is true for addition and multiplication only.*Notice the
order in which the variables are expressed remain constant.Next, the commutative property states that for all
real numbers a & b: a + b = b + a and ab= ba.The commutative property refers to the
manner in which numbers are ordered.*The order in which you add or multiply numbers does
not affect the result.Finally, we have the distributive property. The distributive property
states; For all real numbers a, b, & c: a(b + c) = ab + ac.When a number is being multiplied
by a quantity, every term in the quantity must be multiplied by the number.*Since the
distributive property includes multiplication and addition. The order in which the numbers
are expressed does not affect the outcome. (b + c) = ac + ab. To earn credit for completing
