Yeah, I'm not a black belt in anything. I'm starting from the ground up. There probably is a lot of making up I need to do, but I wanted to just prove that I could do it. I hope to inspire somebody. I was definitely a bit of an outcast. I didn't really fit in. And you have kids like me all over the world who feel like they don't fit in anywhere and they don't have a home. If I can show somebody that they have what it takes to do whatever it is somebody is telling them they can't or shouldn't even try, I'll feel way better about myself when I go to bed. Being an independent wrestler, I used to do this drive once, twice a month in 1999 to like 2004. An hour and a half drive for a guy like me is a cake walk. I'm used to five-hour drives at midnight getting to the next town. So this is no problem. If you put MMA on television as prominent as wrestling was in the '80s, I mean I guarantee my life would have taken a different path. >> Alright, let's glove up. She's just the most awesome human being that I have probably ever met in my entire life. I've ruined my fair share of relationships because of pro wrestling. All of a sudden, I had this precious thing that I didn't want to ruin. I got out and a big focus was my relationship with my wife and my marriage and doing what I could to make sure that was healthy and that was always a very important aspect of my life going forward. She's not the biggest MMA fan, so she doesn't totally understand the differences. But I just picture her thinking the worst. I would get anxious thinking about telling her, because I wasn't exactly sure what her reaction was gonna be. >> April: I will go to the fight. I don't know if I'll be at the page or not, but I'll be there. I just don't enjoy seeing your face with bruises on it. It's tough for me to watch. >> Punk: It's what? >> It's hard for me to watch. >> Punk: Once I started explaining it to her, she saw the spark and she immediately was like, "Okay, cool. When I first started, I didn't worry about the detail, I worried about the result. So if you can be result driven, the details will come as you get results. So I want to get off my back. But my mother and father each had a carton of cigarettes a week. My dad had his case of beer and my mom had her pills or what not. I didn't understand like, "Why don't you help us first, instead of helping yourself?" I would try to not be around as much as I possibly could and eventually I just never came home. When you go to a public high school, there's the jocks, there's the nerds--you know, what else is there? I was somewhere in-between. I didn't really fit in with any group. It didn't get any stranger than me. When I was 15, I discovered there was a youth subculture called straight edge. And I read that and I went, "Oh hey, that's me." I've been able to touch people in a way that was never a goal of mine. Before it was about I want to be a wrestler, period. That's it. You know, but now I realize I think, I have this reach. If I actually believe in myself and I'm confident in my abilities and I'm comfortable in those surroundings and I visualize the right opponent and I go through every single scenario in my head and it's all positive, I'm going to win.
