  • Hello, my name is Catie Wayne, and welcome to "Weird, Gross,

  • and Beautiful," a casual discussion

  • about animals that I think are weird, gross, and/or beautiful,

  • or all three-- octopus.

  • Octopuses-- so did you know that they have eight legs?

  • Yes, you knew that.

  • But did you know that-- I'm going

  • to go with that one-- on a male, like the third right one,

  • at the end of it is a thing called a ligula.

  • And it's the reproductive organ.

  • So, you know, all that anime porn is starting to make sense.

  • Did you know that octopuses are venomous, all of them,

  • every single one?

  • But only a few of them have enough venom to kill humans.

  • One of them is the blue-ringed octopus.

  • It lives in Australia.

  • So if you're in Australia and you see an octopus,

  • especially don't touch it.

  • But you know what?

  • That makes perfect sense because everything extremely poisonous

  • is in Australia.

  • Who wants to go to Australia?

  • Have you seen the house spiders in Australia?

  • Have you seen them?

  • They're huge.

  • They wouldn't even have to bite you to kill you.

  • They'd just have to sit on your face while you're sleeping.

  • So, yeah, that blue-ringed octopus,

  • they inject their venom through their little beak that's

  • on the underside-- up in there.

  • If you had x-ray vision, it would be right here.

  • And it's made out of the same stuff like a lobster shell,

  • same hard stuff, looks like a bird beak-- octopus-es-es-es.

  • Octopuses is the correct way to say the plural of the word

  • octopus, not octopi, which sounds a hell of a lot better.

  • But if you say octopi, you run the risk

  • of grammar nazis being like, that's not the right word!

  • I think octopuses are really because I saw one

  • at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and I got a cool picture,

  • and it was all like, wa.

  • And apparently, the one at the Monterey Bay Aquarium

  • likes to touch humans and stuff.

  • And then when you touch it, it goes, eee!

  • And it's really cute and also I want.

  • I want.

  • I want.

  • I want.

  • Oh, also, PS, did you know that their ink,

  • it's not always just black.

  • It sometimes is red or brown.

  • And what happens is, when they get scared,

  • they swallow too much water, and they spit it

  • out super forcefully.

  • And that's where the ink comes from.

  • Thank you for watching "Weird, Gross, and Beautiful."

  • My name is Catie Wayne.

  • And if you want to, you can tweet

  • me @catiewayne about what animal you would like me to do,

  • because, basically, it's almost a 100,050% percent

  • guarantee that I'm going to do it.

  • And then you should subscribe to see

  • if I do the animal, which I will eventually.

  • Patience is a virtue.

  • And if you like animals, you should

  • watch "Animals With Low Self Esteem"

  • because it's a really hilarious show.

  • And it's over here.

  • And look at this episode.

  • I'm a prairie dog, so adorable.

  • I'm just a prairie dog.

  • I'm no hero.

  • Can't even deal.

  • Can't even handle.

  • It's all right.

  • It's OK.

  • We're going to get through this together.

  • I love you.

  • Bye.

  • Muah!
