I graduated from university four years ago.

I had always dreamed of going, and I know how fortunate I am to have the opportunity to do so.

Brown became my home, my community.

布朗大學變成我的家，也成為我的人際圈

And I took the ideas and the experiences I had that

我把自己的經驗與想法

into my social interactions, into my work place, into my politics, into all aspects of my life.

帶進學校、職場、我的政治理念，也包含看待事情的角度

I know my university experiences shaped who I am.

我知道，大學所經歷的一切，塑造了現在的我

And of course it does for many people.

很多人也跟我有相同的經歷

But what if our experience of university shows us that women don't belong in leadership.

但是，萬一我們在大學聽到的卻是：女性無法擔任領導要職

What if it shows us that, yes, women can study, but they shouldn't lead a seminar.

或是說：女性可以唸書，但是她們無法領導研討會

What if, as still in many places around the world,

萬一，世界上還有許多地方的人

it tells us that women don't belong there at all.

告訴我們，女性並不是他們那的一份子

What if as the case in far too many universities, we are given the message,

或是，在我們身處大學環境中，所得到的訊息卻是

the sexual violence isn't actually a form of violence.

性別暴力，其實並不是一種暴力模式

But, we know that if you change students' experiences, so they have different expectations of the world around them.

但是，我們知道，一旦你給予學生不同的體驗，他們就會對於世界有不同的期待

Expectations of equality, society would change.

對於平等與社會的期待也會改變

As we leave home for the first time to study at the places that we have worked so hard to get,

當我們第一次離家，去一個我們夢寐以求的地方讀書

we must not see or experience double standards.

我們絕不要看到任何雙重標準

We need to see equal respect, leadership, and pay.

我們希望能感受到平等的尊重，也能同樣擔任領導職位，獲得同樣的報酬

The university experience must tell women that brain power is valued

那些我們在大學時獲得的經驗，得讓女性了解智慧與知識的價值

And not just that, but they belong within the leadership of the university itself.

and so importantly right now, the experience must make it clear that

如今，重要的是，那些經驗必須具體指出

the safety of women, minorities, and anyone who may be vulnerable,

it's a right, not a privilege.

A right that will be respected by a community that believes and supports survivors and recognizes that

when one person's safety is violated, every one feels their own safety is violated.

A university should be a place of refuge that takes action against all forms of violence.

That's why we believe that students should leave universities believing in striving for un-expecting societies of true equality,

這也是為什麼，我們相信，學生離開大學踏入社會時，即便不如當初所預期的那般，也應該帶著為平等而奮鬥的信念

Societies of true equality in every sense. And universities have the power to be a vital catalyst for that change.
