I'm pretty sure everything tonight is going to be okay, okay, okay.
Matthew McConaughey is known for a number of things: his off-kilter humour, his romcoms,
and his coming of age. But above all else: he is known for his line “alright, alright,
alright” from 1993’s film Dazed and Confused.
Alright, alright, alright. How you doin'?
His character, David Wooderson, only had 3 lines throughout the film. But somehow became
a cultural phenomenon.
That's what I love about these high school girls, I get older they stay the same age.
Yes they do.
As it turns out, this line was a completely unscripted moment from the film.
McCounaughey was picked up from a bar to play this character, and it turned out to be the
launching pad for his very successful and lucrative career
I go to this bar and I get introduced to this producer.
He says ‘Well, I’m doing this movie and you might be right for this part.'
Listen, you know, we're doing this drive-through scene tonight, and I know you're not supposed
to work, but you think Wooderson might be picking up on the red headed intellectual
'
'Next thing I know, I'm in a car, getting ready to shoot the very first scene of my
film acting career, unscripted.'
'So I'm thinking, 'Who is Wooderson? Who is my man?
'And I tell myself: Wooderson's about four things: he's about cars, weed, rock 'n' roll,
and chicks.'
'At this point I hear over the intercom, ‘Action!’ And I look up across the drive-through at
this red headed intellectual and I say to myself, ‘Buddy, you got three out of four.
Alright, alright, alright!’
The show marked the first time McConaughey had came to host the show since 2003.
