So, SPHERE-Québec coordinates job integration projects
designed for people living with functional limitations.
And to serve our clientele, the organization
associates with countless labour market partners
who come from everywhere in Canada.
Thus, the project of skills development “Kitchen helper”
initiated by Trav-Action, a specialized manpower service located in Estrie region
is a fine example of our partnership.
We went and met with employers to understand their needs. Their labor needs
were mostly culinary.
So we contacted the professional training center and together we looked at
ways to customize training
to meet the needs of customers.
When I had my children, I made a decision to stay at home with them,
but
at some point, we have to return to the labor market.
When there's a whole have sixteen years, it's hard to return to the labor market.
So, someone told me to go to Trav-Action.
Then, they advised me to take a "kitchen helper" course.
Since it was a fresh start, I certainly agreed.
SPHERE-Québec gave us the opportunity to have a training professional,
thus having a trained instructor who fully knows our clientele.
And they cover part of the cost related to the supervisor,
a person who is designated in the work milieu
to supervise the client. So the training includes segments of theory and practice.
The practical part is given in workshops. They learn about cooking,
sanitation, packaging,
allowing them to be at ease when they actually enter the labor market
in kitchens, cafeterias, or even supermarkets,
to know a little bit about the milieu, how it works.
So, in addition to developing their expertise while learning,
the participants have the opportunity to develop their way of being,
that is to say their skills both social and professional.
It's important that students develop their interpersonal skills,
because they need
to respond to an employer's requirements, as an employee,
Thus obtain the job and then hold it, keep it.
Multiple employers had been considered before Monique started training.
Once registered and started, the internship began
and we found a suitable and interested workplace for her internship.
Trav-Action came to us and we met with a representative,
and the meeting was very simple. Then, we did some business together,
and that's how we met Monique.
When I'm in the kitchen, I like to take care of details for the next day, make some bacon,
cut lettuce. Sometimes,
I like helping all the cooks in the back.
And why I kept Monique? The reason is that Monique was very good at what she had to do,
and the time she has been in training with us,
she loved to learn. She had a way of cooperating with people and
people on our team have enjoyed working with Monique. So we decided to help her prospects
for the future.
We've seen very good results with the project. A large majority of the people
who complete the project, will find work.
SPHERE-Québec is ready to support this type of initiative.
We remain convinced that an innovative project like this one
is relevant in the labor market suffering from labor shortages.
