but that doesn't mean you won't find yourself on…

Well let's just say China also has a lot of really unsafe highways.

這樣說好了，在中國有許多非常危險的公路

And I'm not talking about all the bridges that collapse from poor quality construction

我說的不是那些因為 施工不良或寬鬆的安全標準

and lax safety standards.

而倒塌的橋樑

Like this one, which collapsed in 2011 because a large truck drove on it.

例如這一座在 2011 年因為 大卡車在上頭開過而倒塌的橋樑

I'm talking about roads that were practically designed to be unsafe.

我說的是那些看起來一開始 就被設計成險象環生的道路

Because safety standards are really just suggestions, right?

因為安全標準真的只是 用來作參考而已，不是嗎？

So here are the 10 most dangerous roads in China.

請看以下十大中國最危險的道路

Number 10 The Qinglong Road

第十大 滇緬公路

This road is called the 24 Bends.

這條路被稱為二十四道拐

Can you guess why?

你能猜出為什麼嗎？

The steep grade and sharp turn make it extremely dangerous.

陡坡和急轉彎使得此路十分危險

And also, this is true, the perfect spot for racing!

而且，不騙你，這裡還是完美的賽車場

Number 9 Old Kunyi Road

第九大 舊昆宜公路

Well, if 24 bends sounded scary,

check out Old Kunyi Road.

It has 68 bends in just over 4 miles.

Number 8 Tianmen Mountain Road

Then you'll have to drive up this road.

With 99 bends a drop of over 3,500 feet, you'll be getting to heaven

Number 7 Friendship Highway

This is the road that connects China with its BFF, Pakistan.

Now you might have heard of this from the massive 50 lane traffic jams that happen routinely

around Chinese New Year.

But a part of it running through northern Guangdong, the Beijing-Zhuhai expressway,

但是這條公路的其中一部份： 京珠高速公路粵境北段路線

has been given the comforting nickname "Vehicle Killer."

被冠上了安定人心的暱稱：「貨車殺手」

It's famous for accidents

此路段以交通事故著名

because overloaded trucks, steep mountainous roads, and extreme winter cold apparently

因為超載貨車、陡坡山路和嚴寒冷冬

don't mix.

並不是很好的組合

Number 5 Badaling Expressway Valley of Death

第五大 八達嶺高速公路 -- 「死亡之谷」

Yae, though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil.

我雖然行過死蔭的幽谷、也不怕遭害

Except for the Badaling Expressway Valley of Death.

但是八達嶺高速公路的「死亡之谷」我還是會怕

It takes you from Beijing to the Badaling section of the Great Wall of China.

這條公路聯結北京與八達嶺長城

But when you see this sign,

但是當你看到這個告示牌時

you know you've reached the Valley of Death.

你就知道你已經抵達了「死亡之谷」

I mean, it says it’s a black spot, doesn't it?

看吧，這裡不是註明「事故多發段 」嗎？

It's a little steep.

的確有點陡

And if you're not careful…

一個不小心…

Number 4 Taike Road

第四大 太克公路

But nothing can compare to what's expected of you on Taike Road.

沒有其他公路可以與太克公路的高要求相比了

One wrong move and...

只要一個動作不正確就…

Accidents happen nearly every week. So why would you drive here?

幾乎每個星期都有事故發生 為什麼還有人在這裡開車？

Number 3 The 213 National Highway

第三大 213 國道

This highway connects Gansu and Yunnan provinces.

這條公路聯結甘肅與雲南兩省

It's got everything.

這條路什麼都有

Windy roads, steep cliffs, landslides, and it sometimes

彎道、陡峭懸崖、山崩而且有時候

simply gets washed out by the river.

還會遭河水沖掉

Number 2 The Sichuan-Tibet Highway

第二大 川藏公路

Well, maybe calling this a road is giving it too much credit.

稱這個東西為路可能有點太高估它了

Not only is this one of the longest roads in China

這條路不只是中國最長的道路之一

—15 days to drive the whole length—

光是從頭開到尾就需花費十五天的時間

but it's also considered one of the most dangerous.

但也是被認為最危險的道路之一

You know, steep cliffs and landslides.

具有高聳的懸崖還有山崩

Of course, maybe this is intentional,

當然，也有可能是故意

to discourage people from visiting Tibet.

Or to keep Tibetans in.

And Finally Number 1 The Guoliang Tunnel

The village of Guoliang in central China used to be so isolated that the only way in or

out was this staircase.

So in the 1970s, they decided to build a slightly less dangerous path.

所以在 1970 年村民們決定建造一條較不危險的通道

13 villagers literally dug this tunnel by hand.

One died during construction.

It's now become a tourist attraction

for those brave enough to drive it.

And it's become a testament to the ability of Chinese people to make impossible things
