Floods of film fans gathered in Berlin to see some stars walk the red carpet at the
premiere for Darren Aronofsky's latest movie Noah.
The film stars Russell Crowe as the Biblical figure who built an ark to save his family
and pairs of animals from a great flood. While Crowe was not in attendence at the Berlin
screening, his co-stars, Emma Watson, Douglas Booth, Logan Lerman and Jennifer Connelly
took plenty of time to speak to fans, sign autographs and do interviews.
It has just got so many layers, it is really on the one hand this kind of this action film
and then it is also this very intimate family drama that plays out. It is also weirdly kind
of a road movie. It has kind of a little bit of everything in it, it is really beautifully
crafted and really original. And I think, I hope people will love it.
While Emma hopes that people will love the film, it has already been banned in three
Arab countries on religious grounds. As depicting holy figures in works of art is frowned upon
in Islam. But director Darren Aronofsky didn't seem to be worried.
I don't think there really is that big of a controversy. Most of the controversy is
about the unknown. I think as soon as people start to see the film, tonight and in the
following weeks, the controversy is going to disappear. People have to see the film
and see how it relates to them. But, you know, I think the oldest stories in the world are
the classics and they relate to all of us. There is something about water, there is the
flood that we all can understand, that is deep in our souls. It doesn't matter where
you are from on the planet, what religion you are, Noah belongs to everyone. And so
getting the story out there on the big screen for the first time it will be interesting
to see how people react and what people are saying about it.
While the fans cheered for all the stars on the carpet, it was Emma Watson that most of
them had turned out to see. And even her co-star Douglas Booth couldn't help reminiscing about
sharing an on screen kiss with the Harry Potter beauty.
It was great, we have been friends for a while, you know, it is great fun. We were joking
only today, you know: It was meant to be romantic, there was a scene where we had to run together
at one point, like run into a kiss and we got so tight that we just ended up running
and butting heads and make each other's lips bleed. She is great fun, a great great girl.
Noah opens in Europe on April 3.
