  • hello and welcome to HooplaKidzLab. making science super fun and super simple.

  • today we're going to show you the folding egg experiment.

  • you're going to need a safety pin, an egg, some vinegar, 2 glasses and a bowl.

  • firstly, take your egg and very carefully make a hole in two ends of the egg using your

  • pin. once you've poked the pin through the shell,

  • you'll need to wiggle it about a few times in order to make a hole large enough for you

  • to blow through. it also needs to be large enough so that the

  • egg can be squeezed out through the hole on the other side.

  • very carefully hold your egg over a glass and blow into one hole.

  • you'll see that the egg starts to run out the other end.

  • once that's done, you'll end up with an empty egg shell.

  • next, take your vinegar and fill one of your glasses.

  • you can use white vinegar or ordinary household vinegar.

  • once that's done you'll need to submerge your egg inside the vinegar.

  • because it's got air trapped inside, it will start to float.

  • the trick here is to hold it under the surface so that air bubbles can escape from the egg

  • and vinegar can fill it up. you can see the small bubbles coming through

  • the hole in the egg. once that's done leave the egg to sit for

  • at least a week. we've left it for 10 days.

  • once that's done remove your egg and submerge it in bowl of water.

  • you'll see that the egg shell has become soft. if fells a little bit like a small plastic

  • bag. this is because the vinegar has dissolved

  • the egg shell leaving only the membrane from the inside the egg.

  • because you've made holes in the egg shell, you'll see that you're able to fold it up.

  • when you fold it, the air escapes from the membrane.

  • however you can softly blow into one hole in the end and re-inflate the egg shell

  • or you can try throwing it around like a ball. as you throw it around, air will enter through

  • the holes in both ends and will gradually re-inflate the egg.

  • you can do all sorts of cool tricks with it. you can flatten it, fold it in half, crunch

  • it up into a ball and make all sorts of strange shapes

  • it will still re-inflate. why don't you try playing keepy-uppy with

  • it and see how you can do. and there you go. that's how you can make

  • your very own folding egg. thank you for watching. i hope you enjoyed

  • the experiment. come back soon for more exciting science and

  • don't forget to leave us any comments. see you soon
