Hey guy's Nullatrum here. Today I was showering and thought to myself
I wonder if I could build a shower in minecraft. And after some more of the
thought
I realized that this task could easily be done
I'd imagine it would just take some fancy pistons work, redstone wiring, and a
pretty cover over the contraption.
Maybe it would be a bit gross in size but heck, you'd have a shower in minecraft. I then
thought
How many more real things could I build in minecraft? Boats? Buildings?
Computers? I realized that really anything I could think of could be built in
Minecraft
The question then evolved. It was no longer "how much real life stuff can you
build in Minecraft"?
My question became "What is the difference between real-life and
Minecraft?"
well minecraft being based on many things in earth
is bound to have similarities. As we all know, precious metals are borrowed into
Minecraft.
Plants, animals, food, water, oceans, biomes
but what else is it that makes up video games? The action?
Minecraft has that- with swords and bows as well as hunger.
all ideas which are borrowed from things used in real life. What other categories
of Minecraft are comparable to real life?
The soundtrack? Well, music is kind of a strange comparison, so, there isn't
really much you can say there.
Graphics? well you can actually build very realistic complex images
comparable
to real life ones. What about the story? There's something Minecraft is completely
different from real life. Minecraft doesn't even have a story, so
we know there's a difference. Right? That answer is actually wrong.
First we must ask with the story minecraft exactly is?
Minecraft is a sandbox game meaning that you can go around with no real objective
just playing with materials set in front of you. There may be small tasks along the way so
that you can achieve something,
but overall there isn't really an objective, for instance you may say in Minecraft
"I want to build a house!"
so you go and punch some trees as any other new player would. You take the wood, make it into a
work bench with that you make the appropriate tools.
All the materials are then acquired, and you build your house. Huzzah!
now what? Okay maybe then you decide "Hey, I wish I had a cool tree farm next to my
house!"
So you go and plot the land. You seed the area, and prepare your building-like
structure
around it. After that you may decide, "Get some diamonds" why not?
maybe next you want to explore and conquer every area of land available.
Okay, afterwards maybe decide to expand your original house and
make it out of diamonds why not? After a while, you seem to get bored and
now what? quit Minecraft? That's what happens.
and if it hasn't happened to you it will sometime in your life. You may be saying
to yourself
okay maybe in Minecraft I don't have a real objective but
in real life I certainly do. Perhaps you can claim so
but ask yourself what truly is your objective in real life?
Do you want to graduate school? Now what? Get a job?
Now what? Get married? Now what? Have kids?
Now what? Become famous? Now what? Retire peacefully?
Now what? Quit real life? That's what happens.
and if it hasn't happened to you, it will sometime in your life.
We all die at some point, we all quit Minecraft at some point, in both worlds
quitting is inevitable. We have a finite amount of time
to do as we please within them, and whatever we do
will have no effect on the outcome. We will eventually no longer exist in Minecraft,
and we will eventually no longer exist
in real life. After we have overstayed our visit in either world,
it won't matter what you did in them, we just simply won't exist within that
world.
Just like how being able to build a mansion in minecraft doesn't change your
reputation in
Fable 2, stealing or vandalizing won't make a difference
once you're dead. People will argue
whether we have some purpose or set goal in this world. People will argue
what that purpose is.
But one truth we all must accept is this: No matter what you do,
you will die. No matter how badly you want to live or how good or
bad of a person you are, you will die. You could have graduated college and been
the successful person put as a milestone for us all and will still die.
You could also just sit in your room for days and die.
Enjoy it or not earth is all too similar to Minecraft. So similar that it's
eerie to me.
Life is literally a sandbox game, there will be a time where we no longer
play it,
and this is the biggest truth humanity knows. On the subject of truths,
I made a video over a year ago talking about the size of Minecraft.
In it I did some basic math to find the surface area of Minecraft.
Eventually, I wanted to compare it to earth. I claimed,
due to the math I found, that the surface area of Minecraft was 7,000
times greater than the earth.
It only took me a week to find out, by an insightful post on the Minecraft Forum,
how I made an error in my math. Turns out,
The surface area of Minecraft is only 7 times greater than the earth. Not
7,000.
Why didn't I change it? Many of you will ask.
Well call me evil or whatever, but I wanted to conduct an experiment.
and you, my great subscribers, were one of my experiment's
variables. That's right, once I knew the truth,
I wanted to see how many of you would believe me, and how many
would falsify me. What I found was two groups of people emerging.
Those of you that accepted what I claimed with nothing telling you otherwise,
and those of you that dug into the question and proved me wrong.
by logical reasoning I was clearly falsified
but that didn't stop people from believing my claim. In fact,
many of you who believed me continued to, even after exposed to the evidence
that 100 percent
falsifies me. This in no way is an insult to any of you.
For those of you who stepped out and spoke against the crowd,
kudos. But for those of you who didn't, in no way is it your fault.
Honestly, it's my fault. But this brought an interesting insight into human nature.
Like with the video, humankind has done this sort of thing countless times.
Whether it's lies by governing authority,
a false scientist, or a prophet, similar results occur like those with my video.
And in some cases, amplified to a worse degree
These include things like witch-hunting, crusades,
genocide, wars, all of these things come from lies.
But I'm distracting myself. After all this is just a Minecraft video
I guess if I were to tell you the point of this video, it would be something like this
Whatever game you play, make it count. Knowing one day you won't be able to
play the game again
enjoy the time you have with it.
Decide what you want to do or think, not what others tell you to,
help others with the game, make the game better.
Remember that while we may not always be playing the game,
countless people in the future will. So why don't we try to create a game
that's friendly for everyone. Let's make a game where we can all have fun.
Thanks for watching.
