  • Hi and welcome!

  • "Speak American English with Lyman Holton"

  • My name is Lyman Holton.

  • In this lesson you and me...

  • are going to have a conversation between...

  • 2 people, discussing whether or not

  • one of us needs to go see a doctor,

  • because we're sick!

  • Are you ready? Let's begin.

  • Repeat everything I say for Lyman and Kelly.

  • Hello, Lyman.

  • Hi, Kelly.

  • Haven't seen you in a while. How have you been?

  • The red print means that you may want to look that up in your translator.

  • Not to good. I've been sick.

  • Oh, that's too bad. Is it something serious?

  • No, not really. It's just a bad cold, or maybe the flu.

  • What do you mean "maybe the flu?" Haven't you seen a doctor yet?

  • No, I've just been taking over-the-counter cold remedies.

  • Did you get a flu shot this year?

  • Yes. I got one on few months ago. So, it's probably not the flu.

  • How long have you been sick? More than 2 weeks?

  • Yeah, more like 3 or 4. I keep thinking that I'll get better soon.

  • If I were you, I'd make an appointment to see a doctor right now.

  • Yeah, I suppose that's what I should do.

  • If you don't take this seriously, you may end up getting much sicker.

  • I know, I just hate going to the doctor. It's so expensive.

  • Lyman, it may be a lot more expensive if you wait until you're sicker.

  • That's a good point. I'll make an appointment at the clinic today.

  • That's the smart thing to do. Let me know what the doctor tells you.

  • All right, Kelly. I'll give you a call after the appointment.

  • Let's begin our 1st conversation!

  • Speak out loud as Kelly.

  • You are Kelly.

  • Just listen when Lyman speaks.

  • Hello, Lyman.
